The day came and the excitement was palpable—well, on Jake’s end at least. Rikki, on the other hand, was away on a work trip and due to a flight delay, wouldn’t return until later that evening after Jake’s arrival.

So after some reshuffling of plans, Jake arrived in Brisbane and made his way to Emma’s house to collect Rikki’s spare key. Emma couldn’t believe that Rikki was letting some rando guy who she’d kept very quiet until this stage, into her home and thoroughly investigated his intentions when he arrived for the key collection.

Another long walk and Jake arrived to his dream girls empty home, let himself in and was greeted by… a collection of mannequin heads.

Odd he thought, but nevertheless he decided to do what any mature young man waiting for his perfect woman’s return home would do… and set them up so as they were seated around the dining table, to enjoy an imaginary tea party with them whilst he patiently waited.

After some time, in enters Rik, defeated and disheveled form a long week and a longer flight, to find Jake sitting at her table, surrounded by what he fondly referred to as ‘his friends’.

A strange man, in your house surrounded by heads without bodies might sounds a little murder-y.. to most, but Rikki loved that he took the opportunity to make her laugh (with props from her hairdressing classes), and after awkward hello’s they shared their first weird hug dance.

07.09.24

It all began, one fateful night on an island boasting serene views, a relaxed culture, fishing opportunities, stunning hike trails and the illustrious X Base Backpackers, the romantic setting of this very love story.

Though the details are hazy, it was around 3am when Laura, who had been partying with Monika, realised that they’d become separated and so she went about in search for her missing friend.

Josh, like many others, was in the thick of the festivities soaking in the vibrant energy of the island when fate decided to step in disguised as a lost friend.

He noticed a stunning girl, wandering around and before his mind could stop his mouth he called out to her.

Laura, over the rhythmic tunes filling the Full Moon Party asked “Who are you?” with a laugh, to which he confidently replied “Josh Doyle, we’re friends on Instagram.”

A line that would taunt Josh for the rest of his life.

They first crossed paths at the most prestigious venue known for its bird cage adorned ceiling, likely playing bangers from Flo rider and Kesha, an icon of Fortitude Valley - BIRDIE NUM NUMS.

James had spent the earlier part of his evening doing what most boys riding the waves of early adulthood do on a Saturday night - pre drinking on top of a random carpark in the Valley. It was a cracking night surrounded by mates but his plans of knocking back cold ones in empty car spaces were interrupted when it started to rain, so the boys retreated to the closest safe covering which conveniently for this love story was the aforementioned destined nightclub.

Grace had plans to enjoy a night on the town with her girlfriend and the pair made their way to the very same establishment, waiting in line for their turn to enter.

As they shuffled closer to the entrance of Birdie Num Nums, Grace’s friend noticed an old Hungry Jacks coworker standing with a mate a few metres ahead in the line, and called out to him.

James’ attention was caught by some random girl behind them calling out his friends name but he was struck by the gorgeously unique looking girl standing beside her. She was exactly the type of girl he would find at a hardcore show and his interest with piqued. They shared quick introductions and despite Jame’s hopes the night moved on. No core memory making sparks, no fireworks of infatuation, it was merely a meeting between mutual friends… until he lost blackberry and had to leave.

It was amidst the hum of engines and the scent of grease, when Brianna’s eyes first caught sight of Nelson, eight years ago during a chance encounter at Caloundra City Autos.

She was dropping her brother James off for his work experience shift when she spotted a super hot mechanic in the yard. Nothing came of it though and the years flew by until 2019 when fate intervened.

James had lost his license again, which was great news as it meant Brianna found herself back at the auto shop, where she could indulge in a harmless perve session on her brother’s dream boat co worker.

He was walking across the yard to his car, wearing his multicoloured lensed sunglasses and he was seriously hot. She couldn’t NOT add him to Facebook. And when he posted about the passing of his families dog, she knew it was her time to shine.

27.04.24

It all began in the hallowed halls of all Souls St Gabriel’s, all the way back in 2013 when Isabel was a ripe 13 years old, navigating the tumultuous waters of early adolescence.

Amongst her cohort, there he was. Wearing that renowned silver and black striped tie, surrounded by his friends, probally having a laugh at his own silly joke… Noel Bridges.

She found herself drawn to him, perhaps not fully understanding the gravity of her feelings at the time.
He seemed kind of weird and desperately needed a hair cut but that fleeting second they first spotted each other, inside one of Charters Tower’s most historic establishments began a series of events, albiet slow moving ones that would build the foundations of their one day incredible relationship and ultimately lead them to their future as Husband & Wife.

They maintained a distant and platonic peer relationship, their paths crossed intermittently over the years, all the while with Isabel harbouring a secret crush on Noel while he remained oblivious to her affections. Until Isabel discovered that she couldn’t ignore her feelings any longer, when spending the afternoon with Noel’s sister, she surely proclaimed ‘I’m going to date your brother one day’.

24.04.24

It was a chance encounter, the figurative passing of ships, when Danielle & Nathan first met 5 years ago at the Burdekin Growers Race Day.

Nathan was pretty blind but he reckons it would have been a nice day and he distinctly remembers thinking ‘Oh she’s not bad’, before their passing introduction had ended and they went their seperate ways.

There’s a slight running disagreement over what happened next - who was first to partake in a Facebook stalk and initial message but it happened and so began a conversation, albiet a slow one, that would change their entire lives.

In time, the messages became a little more frequent, the responses a little longer and eventually, Nathan asked Danielle to dinner.

He arrived to her house, picking her up for their date at Shop Six Pasta Bar and juuuust to be polite as they were leaving Danielle offered ‘we can take my car if you want’ to which Nathan agreed. So off they were, Danielle driving to the date that he asked her to, weird flex, but okay.

During the trip, Danielle was skipping each song 30 seconds in, one of her favourite things to do, to which Nathan retorted ‘do you ever just let a full song play’…. Whoooo did this guy think he was. Surely not the kind of guy bold enough to let Danielle pay for their date after critiquing her song skipping habbit? Precisely.

As they were approaching the counter Danielle, solely for the sake of seeming equitable offered ‘I can get it if you want’… to which Nathan responded ‘oh righto… cheers…’.

Immediatley Danielle sensed that this guy wasn’t a chivalrous gentleman type and was regretting even agreeing to the date. And Nathan was as confused as ever as to what had gone wrong. The first date vibe was off, and needles to say they weren’t in a rush for as second.

20.04.24

It seemed like a nothing out of the ordinary, very normal non eventful trip… except for one key piece of information that Jade casually mentioned to Em. They were going to be photographed for a restaurants promotional purposes… because a New Zealand photographer just contacted him out of nowhere needing 2 random Australian’s for a branding shoot across the ocean. It made perfect sense.

The photographer was taking images for The New Zealand food and wine magazine and had asked them to be the models, having their photos taken at the various locations she would be visiting.

Mhhmm.
It was a fancy winery resort, they would get a 3 course dinner and local wines provided free of charge and would be acting like extra “models” for the magazine. No, that’s not suspicious at all.

They met at the arranged transportation, headed for the ‘commercial shoot’ and following the GPS, it occurred to them that they were becoming increasingly closer to the airport. As they pulled into the entrance of the heliport, Jade wondered ‘sh*ttt, how do I play this off?’

Jade stared open mouthed, the most genuine look of shock he could attempt and exclaimed to her “What the hell! What if it’s a helicopter taking us to the restaurant?? WOW, they’ve really covered everything”.

He was in prime acting mode, delivering what he thought was a golden globe worthy reaction, certain that his future wife was blissfully ignorant to his mastermind plan of proposal.

06.04.24

It was within record time - 24 hours to be exact, once the initial swipes and introductions were made, that Dylan tried his best to lock down the bright and beautiful blonde that was filling his inbox by instigating the discussion of a first date.

He’d recently graduated form the Australian Airline Pilot Academy and was in the process of relocating from Brisbane on his way to Adelaide, but stopping to visit some school friends along the way.

Enjoying a night of beverages, laughs and meaningful conversation, he was allowing himself a little reprieve after 12 months of rigorous training and so when his mates playfully grabbed his phone and downloaded tinder as joke he nonchalantly brushed it off unphased by their humour.

But by the time the new graduate arrived to Kent Town, ready to explore his new home, he realised that his housemate after meeting a new acquaintance, didn’t surface from his room very much. And so in bid to meet new people himself, naturally it made sense to Dylan to revert to his newly downloaded app.

He partook in a quick swipe session, carelessly shifting his finger left for so many potential suitors that just didn’t meet spec or capture his interest until he came across the aforementioned kind looking blonde and immediatley he needed to double take.

Was he in shock? Was this a bot? Surely it was a fake tinder account because no one in this world is that naturally stunning. Still, he decided to risk a conversation with a phoney profile and at the possible expense of his pride, he swiped right before beginning a conversation that would change his entire life.

24/10/2023

The 24th of June, 2018 will forever be a date etched at the forefront of Anna’s mind. A date of such significance to her, that she will always recall as a monumental, life altering occasion.

Yes. It was the first time that she ever watched a State of Origin game.

She was at the Julia Creek CSA building with her housemate Amy and after elatedly witnessing the might sky blues win, they were about to make their way home.

When from out of nowhere, came a strange voice, ‘Can I walk you home?’.

Kalan had been on the drink for about 3 days with a couples of mates and after a gathering to do some footy training and watch the big game, he spotted Anna - the new girl in town, who was all the talk. She had the longest legs, and a cracking smile and he immediatley knew who she was once he’d spotted her.

Anna had arrived to work for Dane and Georgia and Georgia - Kalan’s coworker at the council, had been giving him some not so subtle hints about how great Anna was, and that maybe he should pursue her.

“Gee, Georgia’s right. She is a pretty good sort’ he thought to himself and with the metaphorical bruises of a QLD loss and a lot of liquid courage, he decided to take a leap of faith, and approach her, asking if he could work her home.

The perfect way to instigate conversation and find reason to spend prolonged time together….

Except… Anna lived 50 metres across the street and didn’t respond too favourably to a strange man, whom she’d never met, asking to walk her home at night.

21.10.23

Despite her actual date being a mere 30 centimetres away, Jess immediately wished that it was actually Scott, that her bosses - his parents, were playing cupid for.

She was speechless and if you know Jess - that’s not a frequent occurrence. Here was this tall, dark handsome man seated beside her, smelling so damn good, with the most mesmerising brown eyes and charming smile.

She was giddy, crippled with shyness, butterflies filling her stomach like she’d never experienced before and her heart was beating so fast she was certain she might pass out.

They arrived, and the nerves got even worse! His smile, his eyes, his voice, his laugh. She was melting.

His mum suggested they get a drink. ‘What a great idea! A wine will definitely calm my nerves!’, she thought. And then began a conversation between the two of them, where Scott’s Mum began asking Jess if she had any single friends that would be a good match for Scotty. ‘UM, ME’ her brain shouted, followed by her mouth quietly suggesting it.

13.10.23

It was 2 months in that they shared an unexpected conversation, when Abbey asked Billy 'where do you see yourself in a years time?’

Without missing a beat, Billy looked at her, and confidently answered “engaged to you”.

Abbey, shocked, immediatley laughed it off and thought ‘this guy can’t be serious’, completely unaware that he already had a plan in place.

Months later, Abbey had planned a mini photoshoot for the two of them. It was entirely her idea, as they’d been living together for a few months and she wanted their house to feel like home with some nice images to decorate the walls.

She’d found a photographer, and booked it in, unbeknownst to her that Billy had actually contacted the very same photographer, giving them the heads up, that he wanted to propose during their photos.

It was sunset, they were in the fields at Palleranda and when the photographer instructed Abbey to turn around and pose with her back to the camera, Billy knew it was go time and was beside himself with nerves.

Weird she thought, but she obliged and after being told to turn back around she turned to find Billy, shaking like a leaf, on one knee, holding out a ring.

15.10.23

Mackenzie and Reuben's love story began on the illustrious John Flynn college campus where their paths crossed, thanks to their mutual friend Jake Clifford.

Reuben had just moved to this sunny city to pursue study and football dreams and was immediatley drawn to Kenz when his friend first introduced him.

Mackenzie had the brightest smile and seemed like such a genuinely happy and bubbly person, so trying his best to impress, he said ‘Hey, I’m Reubs’ in his deepest, perhaps forced tough voice.

‘What the heck, why is your voice the way it is’, she thought, before checking out his black stud earrings, his footy boy haircut and his delicious muscles that were on display in a singlet.

He didn’t seem like her usual type, the earrings were a bit of an ick but the muscles did things and he seemed like a sweet man.

They were only seconds into meeting but they both experienced an unexplainable connection. They were drawn to the other and had a sense of knowing, even then, that the other would become a big part of their life.

07.10.23

A blissful 7 and half years later, Ben took the initiative to arrange a trip away to Airlie Beach.

Lauren was full of anticipation. ‘Surely now is the time', ‘You'll be coming home with a ring', her friends and family would excitedly predict and she allowed herself to get lost in the idea of it.

She had been patiently waiting, she'd made no secret of it and with Ben planning this holiday, It all kind of lined up.

During their time away, they foundthemselves one evening in a cozy seaside restaurant, the scent of the ocean lingering in the air, the tormenting thought of will he, won't he', internally torturing Lauren the entire time.

Though, during dinner, it became evident to Lauren that now was NOT the time, because instead of focusing on his soon to be fiancé, Ben was glued to his phone, watching a football game with intense concentration.

She felt a pang of disappointment and began texting her girlfriends to update them, convinced than an engagement wasn't on the cards for this trip. After all, who would watch a football game at the dinner table moments before proposing!

Oh hey, I’m Abbey,

and I’d really like to help you get hitched.

I’m an authorised civil celebrant in Townsville, with a passion for helping couples crush all of their ceremony goals and execute their wildest Pinterest wedding dreams.

I decided to study marriage celebrancy after my own wedding, when my family and friends commented on how wonderful my celebrant was.

For months I heard rave reviews about how he set the scene for the day, made everyone feel relaxed, and how he delivered a ceremony that really reflected my husband and I. (James McLauchlan everyone, if you’re in Brisbane and after a celebrant that is less me, and more male).
