This day. These people. It’s real life, just a bit more fancy. I adore you T⚡️J, not long to wait now. I want to mention the incredible podcast I listened to on the way back from shooting this wedding in Katanning, it was Louis Theroux (one of my favourite people) interviewing Nick Cave (another of my favourite people). They chatted for 90 minutes and I was absolutely glued to it, while driving through the beautiful and brutal West Australian countryside on a hot day. I will always remember it. If you haven’t been to Katanning, do yourself a favour. It’s really f-ing far away, but it had a nostalgic Australiana beauty that was really inspiring.

The result:

Verdict: Firstly, who takes selfies of ugly crying? I hate the word ‘epic’ and never use it. I don’t make magic happen, I just photograph it. Ew, David.

I’m playing with the idea of adding my pricing to my website, in favour of total transparency. What do you think? I really want my couples to experience the whole enquiry-to-final-product in the easiest and most honest way, so I’m keen to find out whether price lists on websites help that process. It has been a while since I planned my own wedding and I hate to admit that it was *cough*before social media existed *cough*, so if anybody is going through the planning stage at the moment and has a minute to give me some feedback I’d love to hear from you.

I often get asked about my favourite weddings, and it’s a hard question to answer. For me, it isn’t about the budget, the style, the venue or any of the other surface bits a couple choose. It isn’t whether they are wearing designer clothes or have a table styled by x,y or z. Instead, it’s about people who honour themselves and their loved ones by celebrating in a way that means something to them. Yes, that might mean a big flamboyant event with fancy stuff paraded around and champagne flung in every direction, but for a lot of my couples it’s a cozy backyard party with their closest people, their pets, their favourite home cooked food and interpretive dance moves to some banger childhood classics. So the answer to that question is: My favourite thing is when couples celebrate with their favourite things.

Some of my favourite frames from last weekend with S⚡️R. What blew me away about their wedding was the abundance of sentimental touches. When so many family members contribute their time, skills and love to a celebration it really pays off. It’s a lot of work, but the rewards are immense.
