Third & final day at with more great panel talks including launching a new report on issues affecting youth access to live music, along with suggested solutions. Then took a deep breath, did my stretches and took off to see if I could last ‘til the wee hours. Checked out .sykes (wonderful voice, great songs, wisecracks) (again, just to make sure and yeah I’m sure!) .the.astronaut (always quality) (live up to the hype of Newcastle’s best new band) (big crowd again), & (again, because I could listen to them every night and never tire) .magazine (100% committed their cause) (wonderful again) and .band (brilliant punk posturing) editor’s note: my fav punk band of the festival was total excellence from NZ. Finally dancing at after party at Fortitude Music Hall ‘til 2.30am. Dragged my feet home, shattered and so grateful for the opportunity to fill my live music cup to the brim.

Day Two at saw me equal the previous night’s tally of catching 11 bands with highlights from from NZ - superb charisma, - smooth voice great melodies, - THE party band of the moment, giving it full tilt, and connecting well with their audiences, and Matt Joe Gow in perfect harmony, drawing a massive crowd, (please come to Bellingen mate!) solid rock trio and who win my star of the future tick. Excellent talks on venue viability and the value of Australian music, plus a mixer hosted by with and my friends from the capping another 18 hour day. Half through day 3 now and if I didn’t do yoga morning and evening I don’t know how I’d stay on my feet for this long 🙏 🧘‍♂️

Photo dump from Day One of representing Bellingen Memorial Hall. The venue density here in Fortitude Valley is breathtaking - a music lover’s nirvana. Stand out performer of the night was - top quality songwriting, audience connection and grace in her stage presence, also loved - awesome solos and congrats on the play! - and whose music blended Talking Heads energy, Robert Palmer stylings with feet moving to disco & yacht rock. Fabulous stuff all round with two packed days of talks and showcases to come.

🤔 I’m realising a dream by organising a flash back to the 90s acid house rave at Studio BMH, the superb new performance space at the back of Bellingen Memorial Hall.
👀 Looking back at rave culture now, feels similar to combing over the 60s rock scene from the Nineties: a 30 year retrospective gaze at periods in social history that saw the explosion of new musical movements that were closely tied to the politics of the day. Those of use who lived through the cultural shifts of the late 80s and early 90s, both in the UK and Australia, can reflect on a political awakening partly driven by our chosen pastime of dancing the night away to acid house bangers.
🔜 Come experience the euphoria on Sat 4 May following a screening of Beats, which powerfully evokes companionship that transcends division.

Hey peeps, take a break from Netflix this evening and head down to Coffs Harbour Education Campus from 6pm TONIGHT. Why?
1. To check out the bands playing Concert 4 Climate
2. To show your support for the young people who have organised this entire event - I know some of them and they are awesome people trying to make a difference for everyone’s future.
3. To raise funds for Offload some of that climate change anxiety - give the young folks the tools (your cash) to implement change while you jump around to great live music.
Enough said.

I’m an arts and fundraising consultant specialising in the design and production of events that people love, that build community and enable businesses to grow their market. One of my strengths is creating innovative approaches to event funding, combining business underwriting of community events, grant-writing and activating new revenue streams.
