From trail mapping, project management to horse health workshops and confidence sessions. For this reason Horse Safety Australia recommends that smoking not be permitted in any building where clients congregate, nor in eating or office areas of the organisation. Instructors should refrain from smoking while they are acting in an official capacity. HARRASSMENT
Horse Safety Australia is committed to encouraging horse related environments which are free from harassment and discrimination. All clients, instructors, administrators, volunteers and staff members have the right to be treated with respect and dignity. Sexual harassment and various other forms of harassment are unlawful under federal and state/territory antidiscrimination laws. People engaging in harassment can have legal action taken against them under these laws. In some cases, legal action can also be taken against the organisation for which they work or which they represent.
4. Display control, respect and professionalism to all involved in their activities
5. Encourage all participants.
6. Be consistent, objective and courteous when making decisions.

Need some relaxed time with your pony and want to help create a great ranch trail and obstacle fun safe space? You are invited to come along and test out what has been so far at a Ranch and Trail test the trail fun social morning on Sunday 25th August.
FREE activity for only 10 riders * LED ALSO FINE if you want to just lead your horse through the challenges - but bookings required as it will be limited to only 10 people on the day. This is for you to give me feedback on whats been done and what you want to see in as a horse rider in Blackbutt and nearby.

At the moment I am about having experiences with my horses that are positive with a show every now and again to keep me eating less food and making sure I do some work with the boys.
Really be keen to get some more non competition things going so we can be getting ready for events like horsemanship, ranch, reining and more - but in a safe space with support.

Big horse day today that also included the beginning of spring for my mouse catchers. On my arrival home from the clinic I thought I might play with the BBB. However I decided NOT to tidy the shed due to some snake love and hung out with my besties instead. Nothing better than some quality time with quality company.

So there has been a heap about the Olympics and equestrian events and the horse care of horses competing.

I have only shared links really and observed the friction this topic causes between horse custodians and horse owners. I believe there is a difference.

Suffice to say - what it does do is make one think "Could I be doing better?"

The answer for everyone is YES.

No matter WHO you are or what level of which you proclaim to be - ask your horse/s if they are happy.

Do they like you and would they try to save you if your saddle slipped off?

We can all try harder to understand the needs of our horses.

We need to be providing the opportunity for a horse to live in an appropriate environment - physically and mentally.

Horses are roaming, wild, forage eating, prey animals who have evolved over millions of years.

Remember that ;-)

This is a very good response to THAT video. I havnt said anything here to date regarding it...I do however agree with this sentiment. Worth reading. Judges...officials...FEI....keep the pressure on them for better horse welfare. God..only flicking over to the dressage shows that FEI beinh made accountable for this way overdue..anyway...read on....:-)

"The mythology of dieties and villians.

Horse people are a special breed. They come in a remarkable variety of backgrounds, beliefs, and personality types, but still can share an almost cult-like obsession and dedication.

In May, I gave birth to my first baby, a little boy. It has been remarkable how even the most obvious of facts have created powerful, emotional epiphanies for me. For example, that every single person on Earth, was once a baby. A baby who was helpless, who was scared, who giggled, who just wanted and needed love and care. We share that experience as human beings.

I've long believed something similar about horse people. At some point, they were just innocently in love with the magnanimous beauty, freedom, and power that horses possess. Before the riding, the discipline, the art, or the sport, there was just the love of the animal. We share that experience as equestrians.

Charlotte Dujardin's very public fall from grace brings all of this to the forefront for me. I was not at all shocked or surprised when I saw the video. I wasn't even that disturbed because it is nowhere near the worst I have seen. This type of approach is par for the course in top sport Dressage. We know it's reflective of a culture problem and not a one-off because 4 things are very evident:

1) Despite being clearly stressed, the horse was quite tolerant. This isn't the first time he's experienced this kind of treatment and been expected to figure something out... and he isn't Charlotte's horse.
2) Charlotte's attitude is determined and matter-of-fact. She isn't whipped up in an emotional frenzy and she was okay to do this in front of an audience.
3) The rider claims to have been uncomfortable and unhappy in the moment, but was too intimidated to question such a celebrity trainer.
4) Charlotte's own mentor, Carl Hester, signed a document condeming the actions in the video, as though what is in that video were the foreign acts of some rogue stranger. What completely un-mentor-like and disingenuous behavior. He was very happy to align himself with her in fair weather, and now he's cut her loose in the face of a storm.

What the video shows is without question, not okay. But, the absolute vilification of this women as though she is some monster who lied to everyone that thought of her as their queen... is total bu****it. She's being thrown to the wolves and is being made an example of by her own people for the purpose of politics. Yes, the timing of the release of a 2 year old video also makes that evident. This entire scene is indicative of a toxic, manipulative and exploitative culture within the industry of top sport.

Why wasn't Cesar Parra burned at the stake like this? Or Helgestrand? Their crimes are without any doubt worse. Is it because Helgestrand's family holds significatly greater financial influence and power in the industry? Or maybe it is just because they were never diefied and held up as darling heros in the first place. The industry knows there is a culture problem with top sport, and the threat of outside regulation is becoming real. Isabell Werth, a notoriously egregious offender in horse welfare, also ironically signed this document condemning Charlotte. Next signature we will hear about is Sjef Janssen's!

Anyone who ever saw Charlotte and her horses as flawless, didnt know enough about what they were looking at, and that's okay. But don't accuse her of betrayal and blame her for your ignorance. In that video, she was doing what she's been taught, what had been rewarded by judges via the way her horses go, and what has been normalized in the industry. She's far from the worst offender and I absolutely know she's not a heartless monster.
Because she's just another human.
A wife.
A mother.
And yes, a horse lover, even if she has in some ways prioritized the horse's performance over his wellbeing.

But she was never a Goddess, a Unicorn, a Savior, or your Guru. Please spare those of us who knew better the shock and heartbreak. She didn't deceive you: the FEI, the national organizations like USEF, and the judges have been pulling the wool over your eyes, and hers, for decades.

Remember, Charlotte has been being told for years that what she is doing is not just correct, it's exemplary. The horses and Charlotte herself are the ones who are actually being betrayed by this ex*****on theater.

She didn't start her journey as a horse loving little girl doing what she did in that video, she was groomed by an industry that has lost it's way.
Hold THEM responsible!!"

Hows your Friday going? Just a follow up on the big man - BBB - Spider. I whacked the saddle on him again yesterday and even more girthy than the day before. Hes actually knocked my confidence around abit. Here I am over a year later - SOOOO much ground work - so much progress and here we are with him trying to bite me again. I am just going to let him sit for a couple of days now I think because he actually scared me a little bit....being scared is when I will react and as I know - the big man - does NOT go well with angry human.... but its not anger I guess - frustration - its just a bit sadness too. He and I have a deal - he is here because he literally asked me to. He put his head on my chest and said 'please take me home with you'. Anyway - sadness aside that we have a step back - it is all part of the process. I didnt buy him as a project horse. I am not a horse trainer. I didn't want a horse that had so many issues. I didn't want a horse that cant be ridden. I will be devastated if there's something like kissing spine going on here. I can pretty much rule out ulcers but then again - that can never truly be something you can do unless the horse has been scoped. We will try again Sunday with a western saddle - I don't think he reacted this badly to being girthed up with his own saddle on so maybe there's an issue with the fender. Time will tell I guess.... I honestly feel a little bit defeated after all this time we are back to narky bastard which was week 2 of him being here... ;-( I will take Monty for a spin this afternoon - that is always a good way to lift the spirits thats for sure. If only I could clone him or turn back the clock 10 years so he was 10 again.. ONWARDS and UPWARDS THOUGH.. I might be taking a few days off from Spider but I certainly haven't given up. Ive invested too much time, effort and for the love of god a LOT of money. Lesson for readers - we all have our confidence knocked around abit with horses... its part of

ON A GOOD NOTE FINALLY some rain. About 10mm and the TB go bonkers! Monty.. well watch it and see. That is almost the same amount Ive had in the last three months.. Yep.. 10.2mm in three months 10mm in an hour. We might have some green tomorrow. <3

I think we are right to chuck a saddle on him before Antoinette leaves tomorrow. So bloody hot today we just did some filming of the BBB and some things I need him to do....mainly the stand next to a log thing... What do you think? Ready to ride?
