I have no words. I spoke to Will Saturday night and he was the same old happy, p**s taking bloke I’ve known for years. Yet the following day he wasn’t here anymore.
I think the hardest part for everyone in this is the guilt we all feel for not being able to do anything. But everyone has said the same thing, he was fine, he was happy, he was making plans.
I have no idea why this happened, but it’s happend twice in a month and I really feel like the whole notion of relying on people to speak up when they are hurting isn’t working. Maybe we, as a whole, need to start slowing down and really connecting with people.
Last weekend alone I reckon I passed 100 people that I kind of know, enough to say “how are ya” in passing, but never stopping to hear the answer. Maybe the 30 seconds it takes to stop, connect, smile and move on will be enough to change someone’s mood, their day, or their life.
Will has left a massive hole in the speedway community, one that will take a village to come together and heal together. But in the meantime, if you would like to support his amazing family in giving him the send off he deserves, one of the teams he helped out has set up a link to help.
William “Will” Lockwood tragically passed away on Sunday, 19th January 2025. At just 20 years of age … Michelle Gunn needs your support for Will Lockwood
