Wedding designers don’t want to make you spend more money, and this photo is proof.
My beautiful couple, wanting every single detail of their wedding day to be perfect, had considered hiring coloured linen napkins, to add to the drama and design of their reception tables.
We already had a gorgeous plan for the reception design. Festoon lights hanging overhead, beautiful florals for each table, candles in a variety of heights and colours, hand-drawn and by hand-lettered place cards and favour tags, plus all the stunning food the venue would serve.
Adding linen napkins felt like it would be ‘only just one more thing’, and not that big a deal in the grand scheme of their budget. It also would have increased my invoice with my couple, as I would have organised the hire... but I talked them out of spending the extra money, and sticking with the venue’s napkins instead.
My reasons?
Serviettes get filthy — they’re literally wiped on people’s mouths. Gross.
If you hire them, you’re responsible for making sure every last one is collected — again, after they’ve been covered with food, and wine, and lord knows what else.
And also, invariably, they’re just going to be dropped on the floor and stepped on.
This photo = case in point.
Instead of making you spend money on something that will end up on the floor, I want to make your wedding budget work hard AND smart for you.
