This is the first workshop of it's kind I have done in years! We'll be covering Turkish Gypsy (also known as Roma or 9/8) plus some of my favourite stylized Turkish Oryantal moves.

My friend singer/actress/cook extraordinaire Onur Kurt (ex Golden Terrace Restaurant, Sydney Road) will be putting on a fabulous spread of Turkish food and coffee.

LET'S BELLYDANCE!!

This term we'll be honing in on muscle memory, and creating rhythmic patterns of movement that will take you from the dance floor to the stage.

I love choreographing, but my strength as a performer has always been improvisation (that looks like chory!!), and the ability to really get a crowd going.

I will be sharing the most important aspects of my personal practise with you - rhythmic response, technical strength, and full body awareness, to help you achieve your personal dance goals.

When I dance I want to feel strong in my body, and in control of my space. I want my mind free of chatter, so I can concentrate on projecting positive energy into the crowd. I want to celebrate the moment! And I want my audience to feed that joyous feeling back to me. Your intention as an artist is the driving factor behind your performance. What's yours?❤️

We will cover fundamental soloist technique including elevated steps, isolations, transitions, and travelling, plus drill complex layered action in order to respond to any music with confidence, creativity, technical skill, and style.

I've noticed that many students are restricted by their shimmy action, and have trouble moving beyond Egyptian Walk. Together, we will unlock habits that hold back your progress, and find techniques to suit your personal expression.

Let's take our improvised dance from 1 movement per 4 bars of music to 3, 4 or 5! Let's strengthen our body awareness so we can fully express our passion and story with our audience. Lets leave mimicry behind, and get in touch with the unique power and energy of spontaneity, and creating art in the moment.

Oh what a night! My performance at the Dance For Dudes charity event organised by #chris_of_melbourne at the Edinborough Hotel Sydney Road Brunswick. A big thank you to everyone who donated their time, energy, and $$, to support male mental health🙏🙏❤️❤️ Music El Toba by the great Egyptian Nightingale - singer, actor, and movie producer, Halim Abdel Hafez. Released 1973 Costume I designed and embellished this costume myself. Back in the day, I used to handsew every sequin and bead, often with the loving help of my students. This time around, I cut motifs from a Shalwar Kameez I bought from Savers for $4, and glued, YES, glued! diamonte trim, rhinestones, and sequins. 3 cheers for Gem Tak!!!! HIP! HIP! HOORAY! I've worn this number twice to date, and it's only shed 2 sequins!!!! Not bad for a 5 hour glue job compared to a 40-hour sewing epic! Dressmaking is by my superstar seamstress of almost 30 years - Maryanne Ellis. The bra itself is from Bra's & Things. Such a great shape, design and fit! Azura’s Oasis has been electrifying Australian audiences with their spectacular brand of Bellydance Performance and Entertainment since 1998. With feature appearances on Channel 10’s Neighbours, Coxy’s Big Break, Rove Live and Celebrity Appearances at Red Carpet Events including the Launch of Green M&M’s with Pamela Anderson, Kathy Freeman’s 30th, the Engagement of Tara Moss, and the Sydney Olympic Games, Azura and her Oasis have been paving the way in Melbourne Bellydance Entertainment for over 20 years.
