In 2017 we rebranded as Journey Street Food. Along with our new name, we expanded our menu to feature the other cuisines that we loved and that told our story and then we dived headfirst into the world of private catering. Since then we’ve had the privilege of catering everything from grand weddings to intimate elopements — and everything in between.
We’ve traveled the coast from Brisbane to Gympie, cooking in paddocks, sheds and barns, on boats, in luxurious kitchens, garages, and backyards. We embrace the challenge and love the variety, but what truly fills us with joy is being a part of your special moments. It’s an honor to step into your homes, celebrate with you, and catch a glimpse of your lives. The fact that so many of you invite us back time and time again to cater for you is the greatest reward.

Sarah and Jake’s micro wedding in the clouds at Petrichor Estate last week. We kept the party warm with hot canapés- spinach and feta boreks, mushroom arancini balls, scallops with lemon butter and Sicilian meatballs followed by slow cooked Mediterranean lamb and Moroccan chicken targine, salads, rice, flat breads, yogurt and tahini sauce with spicy harissa chilli.

Ella’s family organised an intimate 21st party in their beautiful home overlooking the canal. We took the pressure off by organising all the food so mum didn’t have to set foot in the kitchen and could enjoy the evening.

Drop off catering for a party on the @mvnoosaqueen today. Whatever way you want to cater your event we have something to suit your tastes and budget.

We catered Maria and Dawid’s intimate wedding in their stunning home last night. What a beautiful evening of family, friends, plenty of food that everyone loved!

A beautiful backyard dinner party that reflected the personality and style of the hosts. The rain stopped for the main course and dinner under the frangipani tree was followed by dancing into the night.

Our Story

We are Channa and Ruby Senaratne. We live in Coolum Beach on the beautiful Sunshine Coast with our four children. Channa was born in Sri Lanka and moved to Australia with his family when he was 12 years old. To say that Sri Lankan’s are passionate about food would be an understatement....they are obsessed! Channa assisted his mother in her catering business while he was growing up and then later trained as a tandoori chef. In his early 20‘s he became a partner in the award winning Indian restaurant “Scheherazade” in Brisbane. After we were married in 1995 we went on our honeymoon to Indonesia and from there travelled throughout South East Asia and to Europe, including eight months in Turkey. We returned to Australia from our honeymoon 8 years later with three children in tow! We spent a further five years in Indonesia from 2005, where we ran a surf charter boat which also assisted island communities affected by the 2004 tsunami and earthquake.

Throughout our journey, food has always played an integral part. A few of our food adventures include running a small cafe on a remote island off the coast of Nias, cooking on luxury charter boats, training numerous local chefs and running a catering business in Padang. It goes without saying that throughout all of our travels we ate all kinds of weird and wonderful food from epic wedding banquets to street food of every possible description. It is our joy to share some of our experiences with you through the dishes we create and the menus we design together. So please join us on our journey....
