Established in 2011, Elvi is an up and coming label dedicated to high quality, hand made, sophisticated dresses. Demonstrating a love for vintage, couture, lace and silk the label is focused on unique bridal and evening wear. The label is born from an intergenerational passion for textiles. While paying homage to yesteryear, even named after the much loved Finnish seamstress grandmother of head d

esigner Sandra, Elvi will fill a niche, modern gap in the WA market. Inspired by the beauty discovered in the grit and delicateness of old black and white photographs, pieces are inspired by previous generations but adapted to cater for the desires of a contemporary bride. Approaching the collection with the aim of creating something unique for each special moment, Sandra gets lost in the romantic. She draws inspiration from decadent high teas with antique crockery and carefully selected flowers to create soft, but fitted designs. Elvi is becoming a must-see stall at Perth’s boutique wedding fairs, including the Wedding Upmarket and the First Comes Love alternative bridal fair.

Introducing our heirloom baby outfits. Poppy is wearing a little silk onesie, the bodice is made from French lace from my own wedding dress. She wore this for her Baptism, underneath our family heirloom gown 🩷 we made Michael a silk onesie in a soft blue with a little collar 💙Same, same but different. He wore a cape that has also been in the family for 70 years.

You don’t need a special event for these outfits. You might like something to put in their baby box, to use for a family photoshoot or a first birthday. It’s pretty special having an item made especially for them 💕

Get in touch and we can have a chat. For many of our previous clients, we may even have your lace on hand to use ☺️

Hi 👋🏻 it’s been awhile!!! Today I’ve shared my first blog post in a VERY long time. And guess who inspired it?! My daughter. She uses my old iPad and found photos of the wedding dresses I’ve made. She started asking me questions about them and has now told me I need to make her a wedding dress and a suit for her brother 😳 she’s 3 🤦🏻‍♀️

It got me all nostalgic so I started trawling through photos and found Eleanor’s wedding which I haven’t shared until now.

Jump over to take a look, her wedding gown is truly breathtaking. An elegant ball gown with a surprise for the reception 😉

I’ve made the very difficult decision to press ‘pause’ on Elvi Design. Family comes first and it’s taken me a bit to come to terms with this. I’ve kept pushing on - two IVF cycles, two harrowing pregnancies and now life with along with a bunch of family health issues/deaths. I need to focus on my little ones.

And to be honest, COVID made the decision very easy. I had a few brides push out their wedding dates and then I simply decided to not take on bookings from October this year which has left me with the most delightful handful of clients to finish up with.

I’m so incredibly proud of what we’ve achieved over the last decade. Yes, DECADE!!! I have loved every minute of working with my clients and meeting their friends/families. We really have had so much fun. Thank you to those of you who have let me into your lives and allowed me to be apart of your very special day.

Over the years, I’ve always felt uncomfortable saying I’m a ‘bridal designer’. It sounded a bit w***y... but you know what, that’s been my career for the last ten years and I’m so bloody proud of it. I feel so honoured to have worked with so many wonderful women and to have worked on so many beautiful weddings with other local vendors. What a fabulous industry we have endured and nurtured.

What’s next for me? I’m hoping to soak up my wee little people, find time to sew for myself (haha) and well, we all know I won’t be sitting still for long...

Lots of love and thanks to you for following my journey, Sandy x

Our Story

Elvi Design was founded in 2011 after a conversation at a party. Our designer, Sandra was chatting with a school friend about her struggle to find a unique wedding dress. At that time there were no wedding gowns with sleeves and ‘tea-length’ didn’t even exist! Her friend briefly described what she was after and Sandra responded ‘yeah, I can do that!’. With a background in fashion and a love for couture, Elvi Design was born and before she knew it, making wedding gowns for Elvi Brides became Sandra’s full-time gig!

An Elvi Bride is looking for something different, with an appreciation for quality craftsmanship and beautiful fabrics. When creating the perfect wedding gown for her special day, Sandra focuses on the style of the bride’s wedding (vintage, relaxed, bohemian, minimal etc), her individual body shape (because we all come in different sizes, right?) and her personality, to come up with a one-of-a-kind wedding gown for her special day.

You may wonder where the name ‘Elvi’ comes from. Elvi was the name of Sandra’s Finnish grandmother, a seamstress. Elvi taught Birgitta (Sandra’s Mum) how to sew and then Birgitta then passed her skills onto Sandra. Sandra has many fond memories of making dolls clothes on an old Bernina sewing machine (which she still has!). Both Sandra and Birgitta have completed formal training at the West Australian Institute of Fashion & Textiles.

Passionate about evening wear and couture, Sandra initially gained work experience with Collette Dinnigan in Sydney, and has also worked with Ruth Tarvydas, Galleria Couture and Morrison Clothing.
