Here are three key points to keep in mind regarding the signing aspect of your ceremony:

1. The marrying couple must first sign the register and certificates, followed by their two official witnesses, and finally, the Celebrant will sign.

2. Everyone should sign using their regular signature. If one of you plans to adopt the other's surname, this will be the last occasion you sign with your previous name.

3. The signing moment is a significant focus for the photographer. It's essential to consider the flow of how you move to the signing table and your arrangement at the table. Be sure to allow time for the photographer to capture the best poses.

The Ideal Wedding Kiss
Imagine a sweet, lingering kiss (about 5 seconds) where you share a moment gazing into each other's eyes before your lips meet. It's the ultimate wedding kiss romantic, photogenic, and a beautiful reflection of your emotional bond. Plus, it’s Nana-approved! Feel free to repeat it once... or even twice! Remember, practice makes perfect.

It may sound unconventional, but you won't spend as much time with your new partner as you might think and it's important to prepare for that. The process of getting ready will consume a significant part of your day, and although you’ll have moments together during the reception, it’s common for couples to be pulled in different directions. With so many guests to greet, it might be easier to connect with people separately.
If the thought of being apart during the day makes you uneasy, there are simple ways to carve out some quality time together amidst the festivities. Consider doing a first look; it’s a perfect chance for some intimate moments before the chaos begins. After your first look, you might also plan a 1-2 hour photo session just for the two of you. And once the ceremony concludes, take a quick 10 minutes to soak in the joy of being newlyweds. To avoid any interruptions, have a trusted person on hand to let you know when your time is up.

Practice Makes Perfect
You know the drill—you’re definitely going to practice, right? (Please say yes!) Familiarize yourself with your selection by reading it multiple times until you truly understand it. Try rehearsing in front of a mirror, then ask a friend for a little confidence boost. Feeling a bit too shy? As you practice, focus on nailing the words (don’t hesitate to pull out a dictionary if needed), and discover natural pauses for breath. Dive into the emotions and mood you want to convey.

Take It Slow
When reading aloud, slowing down is crucial. You might feel like you’re pacing yourself, but chances are, you’re still reading too quickly. Incorporate pauses at natural breaks and take a moment to connect with your audience. Emphasize key words or phrases and don’t shy away from making eye contact with the couple. If you need a moment to find your spot again, that’s perfectly fine those pauses allow your audience to soak in the meaning.

Project Your Voice
Remember what your teachers taught you good posture is essential! Stand tall to aid your breathing and project your voice effectively. Your aim is to make sure everyone, even the person at the back, can hear you. Picture blowing out a candle; it requires a steady burst of air from your diaphragm. So, engage that diaphragm as you speak! If you're using a microphone, ensure it's positioned close enough to capture your voice, even if it feels a bit snug against your chin. Now, you’re ready to speak slowly, clearly, and loudly enough to reach every ear in the room.

Reflect on the Why
Why are you doing this? Did you volunteer, or were you asked? Ultimately, you’re here to bring joy to the couple on one of the most important days of their lives whether they’re friends, family, or cherished relatives. Your presence, effort, and willingness to participate mean the world to them. So, let go of the pressure to be flawless embrace your authentic self, even if that means shedding a few tears or sharing a laugh along the way.

I hope these tips help ease any wedding reading anxiety you might have. Wishing you all the best, may you shine on this special day!

What legal documentation is required for your wedding?

1. Notice of Intended Marriage (NOIM): You’ll need to lodge this form with your celebrant between 1 month and 18 months before your wedding date.

2. Declaration of No Legal Impediment to Marriage: This is typically signed at the rehearsal or just before the ceremony begins, confirming there are no legal reasons preventing your marriage.

3. Official Marriage Certificate and Form 15: After the ceremony, you and two witnesses (over 18) will sign two copies of the Official Marriage Certificate. You’ll also sign a Form 15 Certificate of Marriage, which is the one you’ll receive on the day to keep.

Make sure all the paperwork is in order, and your celebrant will guide you through each step!

Wondering what time to put on your invitations?
I always recommend scheduling your invite 30 minutes before the ceremony. This allows guests to arrive, settle in, and be ready for the start. For example, if your ceremony is at 3:30 p.m., list 3:00 p.m. as the arrival time. If you have a few ‘fashionably late' guests, just go ahead and put 2:45 p.m. 😅

Your Day Your Way

I’m an civil celebrant based in the South West of Western Australia performing marriages all across the South West from Margaret River, Busselton, Bunbury, Mandurah and everywhere in between even Perth. I recognize that it’s all about you and your day, creating the ceremony just how you’ve dreamt. Whether it is an elopement with just a few, or a first-class premium event with 100’s of your family and friends, I’ll help you make it your day. Together we can create your day just the way you want it.

Standing in front the people who you care about, to share your promises in marriage is one of life’s most incredible and emotional experiences. It can also feel a little daunting - especially for those who aren't used to being the centre of attention. This is why it is essential to have an experienced, calm and confident celebrant beside you - helping you to relax and enjoy getting married!

I love my role as a marriage celebrant - guiding you through the whole process of getting married, from all the necessary legal paperwork, through to creating and sharing your unique ceremony - so that you can celebrate finding the love of your life and share your happiness with those closest to you. It’s a wonderful feeling. I love weddings.
