Thinking of John and his giant pumpkins today. Next years Summerland Giant Pumpkin and Watermelon Festival is coming around quickly. Hopefully we get some nicer growing conditions for the farmers this time round. I never shared this image last year as I entered it into the National Photographic Portrait Prize. I unfortunately was not successful with my entry, but there is always 2025.

I just wanted to thank everyone for all the love I have received from this image of John and his huge pumpkin. This image was a long time in the making. I first contacted John in November last year to chat about the possibility of a portrait. We then waited and chatted more over the coming months and watched the weather. On the day of the photoshoot and harvest, it was POURING!!!! This image nearly didn't happen. I drove out to Johns and when I arrived it was still pouring. So we waited..... It slowly began to die down and we seized the moment. I wanted the image to look like it was shot in a studio, so I put up a backdrop of in the middle of the pumpkin patch, set up my lights and off we went. It was muddy and wet but as any photographer knows, if you have an idea for a shot you will do almost anything to get it perfect. And it turned out wonderfully. Thank you John.

When I was 11, I printed the words “Photographer” in response to that question, you know the one, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” And guess what? I am one of the lucky ones, and I now do what I love. These days as a mother and a photographer you will likely find me carrying a kiddie or camera and at times both.

In 2018 I launched Photos By Jodie. Since that time, I have turned my photojournalistic lens to Small Business Branding, Festivals, Events, Gala nights, Portraits, Weddings, Creative Workshops, Long Table Lunches, High Teas, Action Sports, Aboriginal Cultural Ceremonies, and much more

I hold a BA in Photography from Queensland College of Art. My style, my passion is Documentary Photography. I like to capture what IS, not what is contrived. My Photography sessions aim to capture authenticity and focus on 'playful connection'.
