GC6HR 2024 Results!

What an awesome day out! We were blessed with perfect race conditions for a Gold Coast winter race – blue skies, clear water cool temperatures and great conditions on the trails!

We had a great turn out with 125 people registered in 63 teams and plenty of new people doing their first Adventure Race.

The start of the race saw teams split into an A and B course with some running and some kayaking first. The B course took teams on a tour of the local beaches, paths and hills with one swim check point a real highlight of the 7km run leg. Then heading up Currumbin Creek on the kayaks, an incoming tide made for pleasant paddling conditions. Jumping onto their bikes teams were met with a steep climb and then some challenging navigation on the border trails to descent back down to the coast and the finish. A course teams finished the course with the 7km tour of the local paths and the very refreshing swim out to check point B in the middle of Currumbin Creek.

Overall winners were:
1. The Armful Wanderers (Mixed)
2. My GC Physio (Mixed)
3. Where the Heck Are We!? (Female)

Our plan for the Gold Coast race is to move it around to different locations each year and planning is already underway with some fun ideas to explore.

A huge thanks goes out to the team that helped make the day happen and of course to City of Gold Coast and Gold Coast Waterways Authority for the event approvals!

Some great things happening in the AR space - the ARA working group are a dynamic team well represented by a range of backgrounds all with a passion for seeing AR grow in Australia!

IMPORTANT UPDATE: This message is for everyone in the Australian adventure racing community, including athletes, event organisers, officials, and volunteers. It's about the future governance of our sport, both internationally and here in Australia.

Many of you know that an interim International Adventure Racing Association (IARA) was formed in late 2023. This followed an international survey on governance, where a majority of countries voted for an independent adventure racing association. Last month, the IARA invited representatives from around the world to an open meeting. Australia was represented by the Adventure Racing Australia Working Group (ARA-WG). Following this meeting, Australia has been invited to formally join the IARA!

For Australia to become a full member, we need a registered association endorsed by Sport Australia. The ARA-WG has been working diligently behind the scenes on this for months. We're currently in talks with Sport Australia and the IARA about officially establishing Adventure Racing Australia.

We've already launched a page for the ARA-WG, and a website is coming soon. These platforms will keep you updated on all future developments. If you are interested in being a part of this please reach out directly.

Stay tuned, and let's build a strong future for adventure racing in Australia together!
