A Simple Treasure Hunt (by Mel the Balloon Lady)
Here's a demo of a fun detective game for you guys to play at home! Have fun! This is how you set it up:
1. Put something from the bed, like a pillow or stuffed animals, on the balcony/porch.
2. Put something from the houseplants, like a leaf or flower, on the bed.
3. Put some toilet paper near the plants where you got the leaf/flower.
4. Put a kitchen utensil on the toilet
5. Put some toothpaste and a toothbrush in the kitchen.
6. Put carrots or another vegetable from the fridge in/by the toothpaste holder.
7. Put something from the bath tub in the fridge, and put the “treasure” in the bath tub.
To play this game again, simply choose an everyday household object that the kids would see often and put it in another place they are familiar with. Pick up something from that place and put it somewhere else, unusual for that location, and repeat. Start the game with a note or message leading to the last item and then work your way backwards.
Important: at each location, it’s important to have a glance around to see if there is anything else unusual in the space. For example, if your tools are in the kitchen the kids might miss the actual clue (toothpaste) and go into the garage. For this game, I only use the safest spots in my home, to avoid risks for younger kids.
Also, if your object is not OBVIOUSLY out of place, the kids may not see it as a clue. For example, when I put only my pyjamas on the balcony, my nephew said “they’re there to dry out.” Next game, I put out lots of other stuff from the bed (my pillow and a stuffed toy).
This first video on Homeschooling took me all week to make, so... the second should be ready just after your kids go back to school 😂 I had a lot of fun making it. I hope you enjoy watching 💕🎈-Mel
