Sancha is an award winning artist based on the beautiful Central Coast of NSW. Daily walks through the bush and along the water’s edge provide inspiration for her colour-filled and joyful watercolour and mixed media artworks.
A true creative at heart, Sancha’s practise is continually evolving.
After many years studying the finer details of technique with some of Australia’s most established artists, she has developed her own expression and style. Often starting with a wash of watercolour on paper, Sancha layers each work with a variety of mediums including gouache, acrylic paint, inks and pens until she’s happy with the results.
‘Each artwork is a meditation, a chance to slow down and create in the present moment. I get lost in the shapes, the subtle changes of tones, the way the light dances, the fluidity of the mediums I am working with. I often start with a design in mind, but each artwork takes on it’s own energy as the layers build. It’s just like a piece of music really, as different instruments bring their specific magic together to create a harmonious sound, I’m composing with lines, shapes, colours and textures to create a ‘visual song’. My intention is that the viewer might be able to glimpse something of the Eternal in my work and feel a sense of joy and connection to nature.’
Sancha often gathers quick sketches ‘en plein air’ and then brings them to life at her easel when back in the studio. Always ofcourse surrounded by music.
