The word ‘growth-hack’ is such a buzz-word in our marketing world. But it’s really a complex term to use as every-single brand has its own recipe. Growth-hacking is a mindset and takes a special kind of person that has an entrepreneurial mindset that can look below the surface, be continuously seeking out opportunities, making and leveraging new and old partnerships and adjacent markets, building communities and of course being creative, innovative and staying focused. 👊

​Every element of marketing whether its social media, digital advertising, web copy, funnels, PR and media, events, traditional marketing and of course analysing data are all pieces of the puzzle that needs to be integrated and gelled together for things to be working harmoniously and create that perfect storm for 'growth hacking'.

​When you have the perfect storm then go smash out that strategy with full force and enjoy the ride!

​You've heard it before but do you get it? When we talk about 'brand positioning', what it actually means is the conceptual space and place you take up in your customers' mind. It's how you want to be perceived in your market X how you are perceived in the eyes of your target audience.

​​Positioning is not something you do, but rather, is the result of your customer’s perception of what you do.

​How your brand is positioned will happen with or without you! That's a pretty sobering statement isn't it.

​So the best way to control your brand positioning is by using a forward-looking approach so you can positively influence your brand in the eyes of its target customers.

​*Cue a positioning strategy! Here are 7 steps in the brand positioning strategy process to check your positioning in the marketing place.

1. ​Determine how your brand is currently positioning itself

2. Identify your direct competitors

3. Understand how each competitor is positioning their brand

4. Compare your positioning to your competitors to identify your uniqueness

5. Develop a distinct and value-based positioning idea

6. Craft a brand positioning statement

7. Test the efficacy of your brand positioning statement

​To position your brand in your customer’s mind, you must start from within your business. Every element of your brand that touches the customer has to be the perfect expression of your position. Think employees, your communications, partnerships, brand ambassadors, influencers etc etc.

You can start by creating a customer journey map that lists all your brand’s touch points—every point of interaction with your customer. With a critical, yet intuitive eye ask 'how can I more fluidly communicate my brand’s desired position?' Does every touch point look, say, and feel like the brand I want my customers to perceive? This is your opportunity to refine, reposition and ensure every message throughout your touch points in the customer journey aligns with how you want to be perceived.

​Developing a positioning strategy is one of the first things we do with a new client. It is Oh-So-Important to not fly blind.
