It's been a year since the show Blow Up was released on Channel 7! 🎈

It was definitely a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that I'll never forget.

Making sculptures bigger than life, I'm so glad I stayed on to represent ACT all the way to finals week!

A rooster for an NRL Roosters fan🐔 🥰

A fun birthday party for little Will where I had 3 requests for an axolotl! I also made a car, unicorn, elephant, penguin, crown, dog, and monkey.

The unusual ones were a potato head, a duck head, and a monkey in a space suit.

My final piece was a fun blue and white octopus, which made everyone smile! 🐙

A time to celebrate new birth and new life for Jesus is risen!! 🐣✝️🎈

My work had an Easter Morning tea and I made these as table centrepieces: an Easter bunny, a couple of chickies, and a basket full of colourful eggs. 🐰🪺

It was Mad Hatter's themed so it was fitting to make a Mad Hatters hat to join the celebration! 🎩

What can you find at the Royal Canberra Show Science Extravaganza? 🤔

A moving talking Dalek, earthquake sensors, 3D-printed protein structures, and a balloon DNA helix structure! 🤖🌏

Twistyfic showcased how to extract DNA from strawberries 🍓 Strawberries are a great fruit to use as they give lots of DNA goop!

We also had microscopes where you can look at samples from the human cheek (mine), human hair (donated by my daughter for the sake of science), spider legs, and wings of a moth and fly. 🪰🕷👧

My highlight of the day was when a mom told me that her girl had a microscope at home but they didn't know what samples they could make to look at. We talked about the different things she can find around the house and how to prepare the slides for best viewing. She took home a couple of microscope observation sheets, so she can record her findings from the samples she will collect.

It's interactions like these that makes all the work to organise, prepare, and run public science displays worthwhile and fulfilling.

Sometimes people have the tools to explore but they need guidance to make the most of the tools they have.

Big thanks to Nadine Najmeddine for joining me in engaging the public, together with your beautiful toddler in tow. No stopping moms who wants to make a difference in the community!
