It's rare to get most of my family together. This is roughly 70% of dad's side, at direct sibling & offspring level.

It's also what 246 years of combined marriage looks like.

It's rare to have so many Octagenarian siblings alive, and even rarer for so many marriages to have endured.

This year we celebrate:

โœจ๏ธ 65 years for Mum & Dad
โœจ๏ธ 56 years for Uncle Doug & Aunty Marg
โœจ๏ธ 53 years for Uncle Cliff & Aunty Marg
โœจ๏ธ 48 years for Uncle Don & Aunty Liz
โœจ๏ธ 29 years for Owen and I

We then started adding up years married for those in the family still living (Aunty Jo & Ken, Aunty Vic & Peter) plus kids (my cousins) and we have almost 400 years.

That's a whole lot๐Ÿ’š

I was so blessed to marry a couple on New Years Eve - their favourite day of the year.

Sure, it meant 'working', however, it brought a dream to life for my couple.

They married at the bride's childhood home, the very same home that 17 years ago she left for a work assignment that would be fated to place her and our groom together for the first time.

Today, she's an Emmy nominated hair & makeup artist in the film industry, he's a film producer, and they live mostly in Canada.

We did so much planning via zoom, our groom was here, our bride in Toronto. I only got to meet the bride a few days before the wedding, but felt like I'd known her forever๐Ÿค— She's so adorable.

How fabulous that of all the places they could choose, they chose her childhood home for their intimate ceremony.

I loved that each parent had a role in the ceremony, with both mum's being witnesses, the grooms mum constructing the gorgeous arbour (chuppah for the brides heritage), the grooms dad entrusted with the safe-keeping of the rings, and the brides father bestowing an age-old tradition with a twist: the bride and groom together bringing their feet down on a pair of velvet-wrapped glasses to seal their unionโ™ฅ๏ธ Divine!

It was such fun!

Photo's to come soon, but here's a sneak peak...

I'm smiling not just because I'm happily sitting in cool aircon (it's still stinky hot & muggy outside, you can tell by my humidity hair), but because my New Years' wedding draft is with my gorgeous couple for their review.

I know I'm great at what I do, and it's still a bit of a nerve-wracking time.

๐Ÿค— Did I capture the 'essence' of my couple?

๐Ÿค— Have I crafted their story so that it moves those attending, carrying them with us and drawing them in?

๐Ÿค— Does the blessing I've written resonate?

๐Ÿค— And most importantly, do my couple love it?

The lead-up to a wedding is such an exciting time, and that first draft landing in my couples inbox makes it even more real.

I'm looking super forward to this one - who am I kidding, I look forward to them all!

**I may also be a wee bit excited / terrified as my couple work in the film industry, with one half being a film producer ๐Ÿ˜ƒ**

I was talking to a lawyer friend today....

I'd done more law-related stuff ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€โš–๏ธand reading of acts and legislation in my morning than they had๐Ÿค”.....

WHY? Because today I completed my yearly Ongoing Professional Development (OPD)๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€โš–๏ธ which all Commonweal Civil Celebrants must do by 31 December.

This keeps every civil celebrant in Australia up to date on all of the legal aspects of carrying out the duties of a Civil Marriage Celebrant in Australia, ensuring that we get our beautiful couples hitched๐Ÿ’, legally.

Last Thursday I had the honour of officiating the funeral service of this amazing soul, 87 years young, at the lovely chapel at GHM Wynnum.

Goodbye is never easy. Yet when goodbye comes after a colourful and very full life, it is just that little bit easier.

To Alan's family, thank you with entrusting his final farewell to my care.

May his trip to the shores of the Great Beyond be as eventful as his times on the Banana Boats in the Carribean.

This came today.

I do love that in serving as a Civil Marriage Celebrant, I get to do one of the most wonderful things; give couples choice in how they celebrate their wedding day.

When you love what you do, you never work a day in your life๐Ÿฅฐ

I sat thinking about this today. What an incredible and wonderful thing it is to officiate marriages according to law in Australia.

As a Commonwealth registered Civil Marriage Celebrant, I am so grateful that the then Hon Lionel Murphy, then Attorney General of Australia appointed Lois D'Arcy to legally solemnise marriages in Australia. It is both incredible and wonderful that Loise D'Arcy remains registered to this day. I wonder if he truly realised the change it would bring about for so many.

It provided Australian couples with choice.

Choice as to who would be able to conduct their service - previously only religious or registry office ceremonies were available.

It gave couples choice as to where they would marry, with thousands ever since creating magic, their way.

It gave everyday Australian's a choice of a different career path, whether it be their full time role, or one they do out of the love of the craft every now and then.

And it went further than Australia. As a nation we led the way internationally, collectively it changed the world and brought people together.

I love the message that was shared with all registered celebrants; I love the numbers, I love the choice people have

Our story

โ€˜LIFE IS NOT MEASURED BY THE NUMBER OF BREATHS WE TAKE, BUT BY THE NUMBER OF MOMENTS THAT TAKE OUR BREATH AWAYโ€™.

Life is full of experiences. Some joyous, some sad; some combine a myriad of emotion and meaning into a single event.
