Boobs… now I have your attention : Saturday we attended the Charity Gala2024. We were fortunate to have met the founder Rachelle and today spend time with her and her husband learning their story. Rachelle was diagnosed with Breast Cancer at 32 and do to a lack of funding and support due to age restrictions imposed by our health system - she began this charity for young women’s Breast Cancer support . It’s not just an over 40’s thing. Take a check. Be aware.

We’ll be doing some more work om 2024 with some special clients in this space - stay tuned

Due to my mother’s funeral being Easter Thursday this had received no further attention .

When comparing quotes - what you ask for matters

Layers are inside the decorated surface (important because there’s some very budget options that are just 1 layer and don’t have flavoured fillings so do check that . Compare apples for apples to be fair )

Tiers are groups of decorated cakes either stacked together, with spacers - sometimes uneven heights, or same sized tiers stacked for an extra tall cake known as a double barrel .

Apart from that there’s every flavour shape size colour and style to finish that you can Dream up .

But to make sure you get the right thing tell your cake artist if you’ll have that cake as dessert, with coffee or take home pieces.
Also advise how many guests and whether you want an additional 'tier' to keep .

Traditionally that was kept for a first childs christening , alternatively -a first anniversary .
BUT … ** its alright to have a whole tier for you two to share just because you like cake
(** not medical or dietary advice 😂)

Cake terminology! I get that when you aren't dealing with cakes all the time, it's a bit hard to get the lingo right.
I mean, icing, fondant, buttercream, ganache (don't get me started on the spelling of that one), lace, stencils, quilting......
But let's clarify 2 of them - layers vs tiers.

So - you don’t build yourself a wedding you cannot fit in at . Well you can but don’t ask me to plan it , please ! Your weddingis meant to be the most joyous time of celebration. If you don’t see this bride is enjoying herself - please play until you do.

There’s is no ‘proper’ thing to do- can we stop already either the ideas of what’s right ? All the “ have to’s” NOPE

Okie dokie…. Who’s got a reel they’d like us to share ?
I’ve chosen this one because I know I’ve got a bunch of followers who’d be nodding YESSSSS and the other half are shaking heads … but a fair few of those are wondering if they can get away with it.

When we meet for your planning consults I’m always reinforcing the idea that .
Your wedding day doesn’t have to be everybody’s idea of perfect - but must be “ perfect for you “

Here’s an idea ….
When you need to save money - and I know that’s all of us at some point, you start looking for what to cut , I don’t mean cake, rather in your budget .

One candidate that gets more than its fair share of finger pointing is the cake .

Why is it unfair - with just a little bias included because I started my career in weddings in the 1980’s as a cake decorator - a professional wedding cake does not really cost more than a decent cake slice of cake: and no I don’t mean that one with the processed & frozen ones that all look the same in the middle of your major shopping centre type.

Why do you think a wedding cake is expensive ?
Because you’ve probably never taken 80 friends out for coffee and laid for their cake all at once. Right ?!
Also the cake comes to you and it’s baked designed & presented exactly how you want.

It’s alright to cut things back you can’t afford (my list is long, there’s just so much you don’t need) and why waste precious time on things you don’t truly care about because … tradition and other people did it . Time is the one thing you can’t replace and save up for.

Your wedding is to celebrate your love - not an exercise in keeping up with the Jones’ … and oh man can them Joneses run .

So you want a cake & haven’t got huge dollars . There are so many ways to do this price reduction and trust me an intricate decoration on a heap of small cakes isn’t one of them . Also: cheese wheels and donuts are not cake .
I said what I said
There is no substitute. You don’t have them ‘AS’ cake . Sure have them in lieu of or in addition but they’ll never be cake.

Here’s a simple idea that could even help reduce your styling and floral budget and for all those looking for a way to include a skdxial guest - cake cutters 🙌
Pros: Everyone gets cake. No cake service fee from venue . It’s family dinner style. Less elaborate decoration costs.
Cons: only really suited to round tables (long tables also cost more to style 🤷‍♀️)
Not suited to outdoors or non air con. Venue settings . But hey it’s Queensland so weather choices should be a part of your considerations in venue selection.
