Van Goh Cakes My cakes are made with inspiration from clients and love - here to provide an edible confection that celebrates you for any occasion

By stroke of luck, cake decorating found me - I enjoyed the process of baking cakes when I was young but never took it further in terms of decorating them. A dear friend casually asked me to make her wedding cake a couple of years ago, and I freaked out. I had no idea how to decorate a cake, and set the silly idea aside. Few months after, I was introduced to Buddy from Cake Boss by my boss at work

. As I watched episode after episode, I was hooked more and more. The idea of cake decorating intrigued me, so I took the plunge and signed up for a Wilton course in 2013. Since then, the art of cake decorating drew me in, I bought more books, tools and ingredients, wanting to create more. My creative juices flowed with the endless possibilities I could make with buttercream, with later introduction to ganache and fondant. Friends and family suggested I should consider selling cakes professionally, and after enrolling a course with Louise Vansleve on Start Your Cake Business, Van Goh Cakes was born in August 2013. I picked Van Goh Cakes because of how my name Vincent Goh often rhymes with the great Van Gogh, and quoting a friend, "every mouthful is a work of art”. I did not make my friend's cake because it was too risky to bring a wedding cake all the way to Hong Kong, but I am blessed to have made some amazing cakes so far. I hope to gain more skills, and hopefully open my own cake studio one day."

It's been a while I have made a wedding cake, and what a great opportunity to be able to create something original and beautiful for Georgia who reached out. The setting matched so well with the cake, and glad it became a centrepiece. Thank you for the referral!

Work has been busy, and 'tis the season for December babies celebrating their birthdays! This is the gingerbread house - well not really gingerbread, adding it to my Christmas repertoire. Glad everyone liked a chocolate mud cake inside the cake - almost everyone thought it's a real gingerbread house!

Following with my tradition, I make a cake for work each year as a token of thanks to my colleagues. I believe pharmacy in a retail setting is challenging, intense, and we trauma bond haha. Nevertheless, I am thankful.

This was last year's Christmas cake - it was made based on our store's mascot, the Bentons Bear. What do you think? Any guesses what it'll be this year?

{ life . update }

The past few months have been all about adjusting to a new home, a new kitchen, getting used to a different lifestyle of commuting longer for work, and assessing my energy levels. I have not been making a lot of cakes in this time, and I miss it dearly.

Whilst I navigate through the routine of everyday life and full-time work, I want to give myself a chance of getting myself established in the new area I live in, and to also be able to give my regular customers the chance to offer my cakes and services. Now that I'm registered with the City of Casey, I hope to slowly re-introduce myself and my business, and I hope you will reach out if you would like cakes made by myself, in my new kitchen in Clyde. This is "hello"!

Last month, I entered a local baking competition at to celebrate Frankie the gnome's 10th birthday. As a Frankston local for many years, and seeing the gnome when on the road, I thought I'd join in on the festivities.
Surprise, I bagged 2nd prize with my banana cake, with layers of peanut butter buttercream and lashings of salted caramel sauce! It's a validation of the thought that goes into the flavours and baking that makes my cakes a winner. Thank you to the judges and organisers for having me, it really is a confidence boost!

This cake really got my creative juices flowing - cat, enjoying itself in the bath, with bottles of wine, a ciggie, and vapes! I added a couple of isomalt glasses floating in the bath that didn't get in the photo. I have never carved cat out of cake, so it is very interesting to study cat anatomy for a change 😸😸

Thank you so much Fleur for reaching out to me, it is perhaps the best project I've taken in a long time!

I don't get to do pink and silver often, and heart cakes above all. I gotta admit I'm kinda digging it, I hope you do too!
Thank you to the glitter pump by Sweet Sticks for coming to my rescue for hot pink!

Congratulations to Brooke and Chris on your big day, but most of all, thank you for having me be part of your special day! Work commitments have not allowed me to take on many cakes these days, and I'm pleased I was disciplined enough to create a wedding masterpiece for you.

Everyone had a share of chocolate cake, red velvet, and white chocolate mud cake, so glad that I had great feedback which fills my heart. Thank you to for your help in setting up!

So grateful to catch up with a friend and her kids that last month, and I wouldn't miss out on the opportunity to create Chase in cake for his birthday. I was restrained in keeping the size of the cake small, and was happy to scale it down for a small affair between us friends! I look forward to them moving to Melbourne next year, where more celebrations require cake!

Last year, I had a special request for Wendy's 60th - a designer bag, in cake of course!
I forgot how much fun it is to create texture, embossing, piping the stitching, and going into every nook and cranny to make sure it looks just like the bag she has. I hope Wendy loved it, and thank you Allison for approaching me for the cake!
