My final funeral for 2024 was for a wonderful man aged 91, who celebrated his 66th wedding anniversary with his beloved wife earlier this year. He was chosen to represent Australia as a speed skater in the 1952 Helsinki Olympics but couldn’t go because of financial constraints. It was a different world then. What a pleasure it was to work with Angi and Tania from Le Pine, Eltham. Utter professionals. Farewell, Alan. RIP.

What a thrill to marry Julia and Julie on the 26th anniversary of them first meeting. Both have had distinguished academic careers. It was great to be able to stay for a magnificent lunch and to help them celebrate with a small group of family and friends. I taught Julia’s sister at Bordertown so it was great to catch up with her and other members of the family. Congratulations to both of you!

It’d be nice to think everyone in the q***r community can be out and proud. But for many, even in 2024, it’s still not safe for them to be so. I’m always grateful when couples who are deeply closeted ask me to marry them - especially if they ask to marry in my backyard where absolutely no one can see them. Congrats to you two gorgeous humans!
