Based in Oaklands, NSW, Empire Proteas grow and supply proteas, leucadendrons and a growing number of Australian natives to the local region. Situated on a 5 acre block, we currently have 1,000 plants of over a dozen varieties to offer our customers. casion, both large and small, we are happy to work with you to provide the best quality stems for your needs. With the vast majority of our flowers picked within 24-48hrs of reaching our clients and coming straight from the farm to the customer, it’s hard to find flowers with more life in them. You can find us at a number of markets in the Border area where you can purchase your stems individually or choose from one of our different sized mixed posies, boxed arrangements and baskets. We also take orders for wreaths, bulk orders and are happy to discuss customised requirements you may have. We are excited to build our business with you and are looking to expand our varieties to cater for all tastes and seasons.

For our Yarrawonga followers and lovers of coffee we have been lucky enough to have hardluckcoffeeco host us and have a handful of our small arrangements.

Valentines Day aside I can’t think of a better way to start a Friday than with a cup of happiness and some flowers you can admire for the weeks to come.

A call out to our Rutherglen and Corowa residents. Be sure to head into your respective IGA’s and grab yourself an arrangement from my personal favourite Empire Proteas 😂. Whilst our season traditionally doesn’t start until around the beginning of March we were able to get some our regulars in store and ready to purchase

t was far too hot to plant the first run of sunflowers out at the plantation as we can’t monitor the watering as much so they were integrated in the home garden. They appear to be thriving amongst the plants so looking forward to the next 6-8 weeks to see them popping up above the rest of the plants.

The paper daisies we planted last September are still producing despite us picking from them regularly and the ones we planted on Christmas Eve are just starting to produce the odd flower here and there. Really looking forward to getting these up and running for the back end of 2025.

The fun part about growing from seeds is when the kids are looking through them at Bunnings and selecting the ones they want to try. Looking to see if they are suitable for cut flowers, when they should be sown, how long to flower and off course if they look “pretty”.

The first batch that has been potted up is a mixture between paper daisies and Nigella. It’ll be interesting to see how they turn out and off course how they look in the arrangements.

Odie’s been bugging me for years to make her own arrangements to sell, which I assume is a mutiny takeover, and I told her if the seeds take off and are successful we can do one “Odie’s box” a week. That just adds a little more pressure to trying to make it all work

Today’s arrangement will be by far the biggest one yet. With 17 different types of foliage, 7 different Leucadendrons along with paper daisy’s and gum nuts the I’m hoping it will be a fitting tribute.

Be sure to check back in in a few hours when I post the final photos

Still playing the waiting game for the start of our Banksias so in the interim we are keeping busy with our experiments.

A week on and they are starting to pop up with the sunflowers bursting through. It’s pretty cool hearing the amazement in the kids voices when they see them coming up. With another 20 trays getting planted over the weekend I had to temporary move them to more permanent position for now

I’m a bit more organised keeping track of everything via a spreadsheet. Everything is purely trial and error with the hope that one day we will have it all sorted out and we have a bit of fun. In the meantime.

Fingers crossed 🤞

I remember when I was first asked to do one of these not too long ago I think my initial reply was something along the lines of “let me google it and I’ll see what I could do”.

Whilst I’m still super critical of my own arrangements I’m starting to get the hang of it

Been a bit quiet on the flower front. Between being out of season, waiting on supplies and using my 2 weeks off for some home renovations I haven’t had much opportunity to do much.

I’ve still got some light so I thought I’d post a progress shot. Whilst it a sad and tough time for the family I hope that this will bring some light as they spend tomorrow remembering all the good times.

Unfortunately the photos can’t pick up all the little intricate pieces of foliage as there would be over 100 pieces and counting

Wishing everyone a safe and Merry Christmas filled with joy, laughs and many fond memories. We would like to thank everyone for your continued support this year. Whether it’s a comment, a like or buying an arrangement of flowers we appreciate everyone for supporting our small little business.

We had a little surprise visitor at our place last night which made for a confusing start to the morning 😂

I gave myself an early Xmas present of some time to spend getting half of the paper daisies in the ground. I may have went a bit over the top with the fertiliser but when you go from 500g containers to a 20kg bag your handfuls get a bit bigger
