It's surprising, but many supermarkets throw away a lot of food just because it doesn't look perfect. In fact, about 25% of apples, 20% of onions, and 13% of potatoes grown in the west are wasted due to their appearance.

Sometimes, fruits and vegetables grow in funny shapes or sizes. Maybe a carrot is bent, or an apple has a small spot. Even though these foods are still fresh and tasty, supermarkets don’t always put them on the shelves. They think people won’t buy them because they don’t look nice.

Globally, around 14% of food produced is lost after harvesting but before it reaches shops and supermarkets.This means a lot of nutritious food is wasted, which is bad for the environment and our communities. And imagine how many poor could be fed with these instead of being disposed of!

The good news is that some stores abroad are starting to sell "ugly" produce at lower prices, helping to reduce waste and offer affordable options to shoppers. In Bangladesh as well, we can welcome such initiatives. By choosing these imperfect fruits and veggies, we can help cut down on food waste and enjoy delicious, healthy meals.

Making tomato soup at home is easy and fun! Here’s how you can do it with just a few simple steps.

First, you’ll need these ingredients:

1) 4 ripe tomatoes
2) 1 onion
3) 2 garlic cloves
4) 2 cups of water or vegetable broth
5) A little salt and pepper
6) Some butter or oil for cooking

Now, let’s make the soup!

1) 𝐂𝐡𝐨𝐩 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐯𝐞𝐠𝐠𝐢𝐞𝐬: Start by cutting the tomatoes, onion, and garlic into small pieces.
