Proud partner of RAMPAGE for many many years.
I lost my heart at Rampage Open Air, and I also lost my voice and some of my mind. My heart is still there but luckily the rest is back so time to recap a bit… First of all: this was the best crowd any festival could wish for: hyped, friendly, helpful, positive-minded, energetic, curious, broad-minded..., it was an incredible feeling meeting so many of you, seeing everyone have so much fun and hearing all the feedback. It was truly heartwarming!!! Second of all: big up the team!!!! I was very proud to see what they had accomplished. Most of you (including myself) have no idea how much time, effort and experience is needed to make sure everything connects just right and make everything work the way it did. Salute and congrats: first and foremost, my partner Kristof Darcon, who is the head of overall production, staff, licenses and security; the man has been in this business for 30+ years and it shows, this was a masterpiece in my humble opinion. Tom Stoop is his righthand man and he smashed it; it was crazy to see him at work on Mondaymorning while all smiles! Dries Vleminckx and his team worked their ass off to get everything on-site built up and I couldn’t be more grateful for the work they put in, not forgetting Rudy Vorstenbosch who made the plans and helped connect the dots. Backstage we couldn’t have done it without the mastermind that is Quentin Van Damme, and both Bjorn Ielegems and Marijn Van Sasse Van Ijsselt who made sure the shows all worked out the way they did. My guy Sjoerd who has made enormous strides, trooper Ivana who juggled 5 jobs all weekend, Jeroen, Lena, Seth and the rest of the videoteam, David, Tom and all the photographers, Ash, Daan and the other mediastaff, Victor, Michaela, Amine, Ward, Maite, Andy and everyone else of the promoteams, I love you guys, Peter bossing the press/pr, the drivers of the artist shuttles, the security, barstaff, parking surpervisors, roadstaff, cleaners, incredible work, all of them…
And of course… all the artists, so many of them gave it all they got to make their show the best of the year, showing us how highly they rate our festival, how much it means to them to be able to play there… fans have become artists have become friends… so many full circle moments backstage, so many highlights on stage!! From a superstar like Subtronics designing an entirely new set just for us, to seeing crowds gather to show love to new acts like In The Lab, Invicta, Bare Up, Natty Lou..., watching the backstage empty out to go see Hamdi, all the Belgian guys being more succesful every year… I could go on forever! My own highlights include being surprised on stage by my kids and having Sena on stage for Can’t Keep Me Down (finally!), SweetTooth riddim classics at Silent Disco and the fact he bought merch just to make a custom jacket, dancing to AC13 and Justin Hawkes’ sets, going b2b with Modestep and Dirtyphonics, seeing someone having my autograph tattooed on his leg (🤯), having my US team over, meeting tons of people I had only spoken on email before…
I have pages and pages of notes on what can be improved, it’s safe to say we’re going to put on an even better festival next year and I can’t wait to show you all!!
But first, we hit ADE with Subtronics, Hedex, Gentlemens Club, Freaks & Geeks, Sota, Basstripper, Level Up… who all smashed it last weekend - you’re crazy if you don’t have your tickets yet, after seeing what they all did at Open Air 😉
A few more adventures abroad with France, Bristol and Heidelberg and then it’s the 15th anniversary with 2 nights at Sportpaleis where we’ll be premiering something that has NEVER been done in bass music before and we’re sure is going to blow everyone’s minds!!!
See you soon, Soldiers. Salute!
