TRADITIONAL DANCES

A traditional dance form is a dance whose history, language,song, background and purpose is determined by culture and traditions of the people. Therefore, traditional dance expresses the life of the community instead of the individual.

Traditional dance is full of energy and combines different movements. It goes with singing and musical instruments. That is to say, the contents and practices of traditional dance are cultural in nature, passed down from generation to generation.
Traditional dances are seen during child birth, farming, burial and other traditional ceremonies.

In Nigeria, traditional dance forms include leap dance, stride dance, close dance and stamp dance.
