GCWIHABA CAVES⛰🐾🦅

Gcwihaba Cave: Jewel Underground
The caves are in north western Botswana beneath the dry Kgalagadi landscape. It remains one of the attractions in the remote part of the country yet a marvel to visit.
A network of underground caves and pits, Gchwihaba Caves offer an adequate workaround space between the two entrances, amid many dead ends hence a local guide would be ideal.
Another intriguing sight about the caves is the visibility of stalagmite and stalactite formations, flowstones that appear like waterfalls of various rock underground, offering a remnant of a heritage whose only existence is known to the Creator.
Exploring them could also be an exhausting challenge, and beware of multitudes of bats which hang on the cave ceiling. An artificial lighting is a necessity here.

Recent studies have found that crocodiles and their relatives are highly intelligent animals capable of sophisticated behavior such as advanced parental care, complex communication and use of tools for hunting. New research shows just how sophisticated their hunting techniques can be.

Crocodiles and alligators were observed conducting highly organized game drives. For example, crocodiles would swim in a circle around a shoal of fish, gradually making the circle tighter until the fish were forced into a tight "bait ball." Then the crocodiles would take turns cutting across the center of the circle, snatching the fish..

The capybara (pela), considered the friendliest wild animal, has a calm and compassionate nature, even adopting stray and runt animals, and even providing transportation on its back for birds and monkeys. It’s not advisable to keep them as pets because they need plenty of space to roam, a place to swim, and get very depressed without a mate.
Considered worldwide as the best pets, canines were one of the first species domesticated by homo sapiens. The first person to deem them as “mans best friend” was Frederick the Great of Prussia.
Domesticated around 4000 B.C., horses remain a valued animal in modern-day society, and are the best animals for riding. They still offer transport, often compete in riding competitions, and can even offer emotional support to humans through equine therapy.
What are the ten friendliest wild animals in the world to humans? Which animals are the best? Which wild animals are the nicest? Well, we first need to define “friendly.” For our purposes, it means “gets along well with humans.” But let’s not confuse “gets along” with “makes a good pet.” Even though some animals are sweet, that doesn’t mean everyone should keep them as pets. Animals, including humans, have vital needs — and if we can’t satisfy them, we shouldn’t assume the responsibility.

Kalahari Plains Camp sits on the edge of an enormous pan, south-east of Deception Valley in the Central Kalahari ...
.. Game Reserve (also known as the CKGR), which offers some of Botswana's best summer game viewing. It is one of just two camps in a reserve approximately the size of Switzerland, and the views from across the pan are immense. The camp was moved here from its original location in 2009, taking it away from the more accessible public roads in the reserve.

Kalahari Plains Camp is well situated close to the CKGR's most famous area, Deception Valley. We loved the big gauze windows in the tented chalets and the sleep-out decks on the roofs. The guiding was good and we felt that the camp offers a relatively unexplored wilderness with the potential for great game sightings between about December and March. However, we'd be less enthusiastic when the park is drier, and the game less visible, between about June and November. On a recent visit we had great sightings of 2 individual groups of bat eared fox which can be found regularly int his area. We saw plenty of plains game such as springbok and Oryx with the odd black-backed jackal.

Did you know that Lions spend 18-20 hours a day resting? This big cats are opportunistic hunters and to conserve energy whenever they can. They will hunt at any time of the day should an opportunity arise, otherwise they are also masterminds when it comes to hunting within the pride. They are able to bring down prey much larger than them such as a giraffe, buffalo and hippos. So sometimes a cat nap is needed.

Before it became a trans border park, it was called Gemsbok National Park in Botswana and Kalahari Gemsbok National Park in South Africa. Did you know that three-quarters of the park lies in Botswana and one-quarter in South Africa? There is a thriving population of Gemsboks in the park. Gemsboks are desert specialists. It can survive for long time without drinking water.
