I had so much fun spreading Christmas cheer on Thursday at Arnprior's Jingle & Mingle event! We raised $161 for TAP Teachers Against Poverty at Racked ❤️ Thanks so much to everyone that came out!

December 6 is the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women, which is about honouring those who have experienced gender-based violence and remembering those whose lives have been lost to such violence.
Earlier this year, the County of Renfrew declared intimate partner violence and violence against women an epidemic following the jury recommendations resulting from the inquest into the 2015 murders of Carol Culleton, Anastasia Kuzyk and Nathalie Warmerdam in Renfrew County.

Through this resolution, Renfrew County Council committed to engaging with community partners to educate Renfrew County residents about the seriousness and long-term dangers of violence in our community.

At the November 29 session of County Council, elected officials and staff wore white ribbons to signify the White Ribbon Pledge which is an international campaign aimed at raising awareness about and ending violence against women. By wearing a white ribbon, individuals pledge to never commit, condone or remain silent about violence against women. The campaign encourages people to take an active role in promoting gender equality, raise awareness, and take action to prevent violence.

Today at 12 p.m., EVA-End Violence Against Women-Renfrew County will host a vigil at the Women’s Monument at 2 Harry Street in Petawawa. This vigil will honour the 14 women who were killed in Montreal, honour the women killed in Renfrew County and will remember the missing and murdered Indigenous women. Everyone is invited to attend this event. This vigil commemorates those who we have lost to Intimate Partner Violence and reminds us that the work to end Intimate Partner Violence is still ongoing.

The flags of County of Renfrew Administration Buildings have been lowered to half-mast to honour the lives lost and mark this important day.
