Here is the reaction video from Tony Dawson delivering the good news to Roxanne Notley on winning the handmade quilt for the ALS Society of Newfoundland and Labrador.

Congratulations Roxanne!

The deed is done! Our winner has been drawn by the Bay Roberts, Newfoundland and Labrador Mayor Walter Yetman. Our winner is Roxanne Notley of Port Hope Simpson, Newfoundland and Labrador.

We want to thank everybody for their continued support, from the ticket buyers, the ticket sellers, and the Friends of Beverly Cole who made this super sharp quilt, and we are happy to announce we raised $3057 Dollars in ticket sales with all money going to the ALS Society of Newfoundland and Labrador.

Thank you Mayor Yetman for conducting our draw, and everybody for helping to make this a success and helping us honour Beverly Cole's memory.

For anybody who doesn’t know, Cheryl heads up the ALS Society of Newfoundland and Labrador doing the heavy lifting along with some great volunteers across the province. Her main goal is to help those with ALS in anyway she can. If you are in, or know someone in, the Corner Brook area and want tickets use the number below and give her a call.

This year's quilt for our ALS Society of Newfoundland and Labrador fundraiser in memory of Beverly Cole is striking with the different shades of Reds and Greys mixed in with Black and White, the use of dark colours on a field of White allows the quilt to be bright and pop. Like our last two quilts, also pictured here, this quilt was made by Beverly's friends using material to come out of the material she had accumulated over the years enjoying her favourite hobby and past time.

Feel free to contact me for tickets (J Michael Cole) we have lots of options to get tickets to you and different sellers around the province.

While we have been very lacking in posts on the page as we haven’t been able to set up to sell in the local stores or malls, we have had ticket sales going on all across the province.

But if you would like tickets:

1. send a message through the page either by private message or post on the page and I will contact you.

Or

2. Contact me personally by private message under my profile, J Michael Cole

3. I can put you in contact with sellers on the Island, in Happy Valley-Goose Bay, or Labrador City.

4. We are more than happy to sell tickets by EMT and send you pictures of your filled out tickets

5. If you are in the CBN area we can even arrange to meet or come to you with tickets with appropriate masking and social distancing.

So there are lots of ways for you to get tickets and for us to get tickets to you.

Please give us a like and a share to help us spread the word and sell more tickets in memory of Beverly Cole.

Thanks
Mike

We’re observing the inaugural Lou Gehrig Day on Wednesday, June 2nd, 2021.

The year was 1939. Lou Gehrig, star player for the New York Yankees, stood in front of 62,000 fans and delivered one of the most poignant speeches in the history of sports.

“For the past two weeks you have been reading about the bad break I got. Yet today I consider myself the luckiest man on the face of the earth.” The Iron Horse held back tears as he addressed the crowd at Yankee Stadium after being forced to retire from baseball two weeks prior due to his fatal diagnosis of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), now also referred to as Lou Gehrig’s disease. He died two years later, days short of his 38th birthday.

Today, Gehrig remains an inspiration and is a source of strength, humility and courage to many people facing the devastation of an ALS diagnosis.

In early 2021 following grassroots efforts by the ALS community that resulted in support from all Major League Baseball teams, the MLB announced that it will be recognizing Lou Gehrig Day every year on June 2, starting in 2021 – exactly 80 years after his death. It’s a fitting start to ALS Awareness month in Canada.

Today, there is still no cure – but there are more therapies than ever in the pipeline and organizations like the ALS Society of Canada and many others that provide services and support, fund research, and advocate for change to the status quo.

With our third quilt draw we now have three different quilts that have been beautifully made by friends of Beverly. All three have been well received and all three have been very different. This year's quilt with its dark border and mixed coloured rectangles is sharp and different from last year's quilt with the blues reminiscent of the ALS Cornflower Blue, and our first quilt with lots of bright colours stood out and easily drew people in to view it when we could sell in public.

All three are different and all three are great and are a great tribute to Bev's love of quilting and her friendship with the people who made the quilts for us.

Tickets are on sale now for $1.00 each, with the draw to be held October 16, 2021 here in Bay Roberts. All money raised goes directly to the ALS Society of Newfoundland and Labrador to help them with the great work they do across the province helping people in their fight with ALS.

We are happy to announce our third annual ticket draw in memory of Beverly Cole for the ALS Society of Newfoundland and Labrador. Our 2021 Quilt made and labelled by Friends of Bev Cole is 88” x 74”, with sharp colours, and definition that pops when up close and softens nicely from a distance.

The tickets have arrived here and are being distributed to our sellers. We already have sellers in Labrador City & Wabush, Happy Valley-Goose Bay, Corner Brook, and here on the Avalon Peninsula. When they have their tickets in hand, we will share that information here.

Tickets like last year are $1.00 each and if there is no seller in your area or is more convenient you can message me through the page or my own account J Michael Cole to arrange an online purchase through EMT.
