We are very excited to announce a new concert series on the island...Roots on The Rock
This will be a trial run to check out the sustainability of the idea. The format is that the first half is a (semi) open mic with some invited singers/players and some slots to sign up on the night. The second half features an folk/roots band, generally from off island. We kick off on March 24th at Coll
ins Hall with Vancouver folk and acoustic champion, song-writer and banter master Tim Readman showcasing material from his latest CD 'Out of the Green' and his band of the same name including the indomitable Jenny Bice on fiddle. Next stop, on April 21st, at the Gallery this time, is Vancouver Old Time band 'Plough' a four piece foot-stomping band bringing you the songs and tunes they have learned in journeys right out of 'deliverance'. Then back to Collins Hall on May 12th for Bowen's own folk sensations 'Thereafter' with their lavish instrumentals and deeply delving songwriting explored via guitar, flute, cello and fiddle. Catch them before they take off on their festival tour in the summer. It is a non-profit series, all takings cover the musician and venue costs. Each show is $12 on the door, or get your 3 ticket pass from the Phoenix for $30 all in! Do come out and show your support of music on Bowen and help us take this beyond these first 3 shows!
