The Paani Vaar is held at the groom's house once the couple arrives after the Doli on the wedding day. The groom's mother greets her son and new daughter-in-law by standing in the doorway with a garvi (small pot) filled with half water and half milk. The mother blesses the couple by holding the garvi to their heads and then attempts to drink it. The groom will playfully stop her but eventually lets her drink it. This playfulness symbolizes the happiness in the wedding house at the arrival of a new family member. The Paani Vaar is also believed to remove any evil eye before the couple enters the home together.

The Doli is when the bride officially leaves her family's home and goes to her husband's home. This takes place on the wedding day after all festivities have been completed at the gurdwara (Sikh temple). Family and friends from both families gather at the bride's parental home. As the bride walks out of the house, a bowl of rice is held in front of her. She scoops handfuls of it and throws it behind her. This action symbolizes that she is leaving and taking nothing with her; it's also believed that each grain of rice represents the bride's wishes for her family to be blessed in much happiness. Once the bride is seated in the vehicle with her husband, her brothers push the vehicle as they say goodbye (traditionally, the bride was carried in a palanquin by her brothers to the groom's home).

The Choora ceremony takes place at the bride's parental home the night before the wedding. This is when the maternal uncles will put 21 wedding bangles called choora on each arm of the bride after dipping them in a mixture of milk and rose water. This is followed by adding hanging accessories called kaleeray on a single bangle on each wrist. Historically, these hanging accessories used to be dried coconuts. They served as a snack for the bride as she traveled to her in-law's house after the wedding which was usually a long journey. Since the bride was expected to be shy and reserved, the dried coconuts were given to her by her family in case she got hungry. The choora signifies a newly married woman and was traditionally worn for an entire year.

The Sangeet is another pre-wedding event that takes place in the evening during the week of the wedding. It can be held at each of the wedding homes or at an arranged venue. Historically, this event consisted mainly of women and children and begins with the singing of traditional folk songs called kori's (by the groom's side) or suhaag (by the bride's side). Once the folk songs have been completed by the family members, the remaining guests are welcomed to join in on the singing and dancing. Mehndi (henna) can also be applied during this event to add to the festivities. The significance of the Sangeet night is to express excitement for the upcoming wedding day.

The application of mehndi (henna) occurs a few days before the wedding day. It's traditionally applied in intricate designs to both hands and feet of the bride by a professional or a creative member in the family. It is believed that the herb in mehndi helps to relieve stress hence, it is applied to both hands and feet where most nerve endings of the body are. The women from both the bride's and groom's side will also partake in getting their mehndi done to join in on the festivities. Mehndi is a symbol of celebration and brings good luck and positivity to the bride.

The Chunni ceremony is another one of the pre-wedding events that is historically known as the official engagement and takes place at the bride's house or an arranged venue. The groom's family goes to the bride's family with a red outfit including a chunni (scarf), traditional jewelry (usually gold), accessories, cosmetics, and sweets. The groom's mother will place the chunni on the bride's head and the groom's sisters/cousins will dress up the bride with the items they've brought. The bride's lap is filled with sweets and shagun (money) presented by the groom's father. The rest of the family and friends in attendance will follow with shagun as well. This ceremony signifies the bride has been publicly accepted into the groom's family as their future daughter-in-law.

The Kurmai ceremony is one of the initial pre-wedding events that historically takes place at the gurdwara (Sikh temple) or the groom's house where a paath (prayer) is held. The bride's family goes to the groom's family with sweets and gifts. A red pala (scarf) goes over the groom's shoulders which he will hold open in his lap. It is then filled with sweets, shagun (money) and a gift (usually a piece of jewelry) presented by the bride's father. The rest of the family and friends in attendance will follow with shagun as well. This ceremony signifies the groom has been publicly accepted into the bride's family as their future son-in-law.
