Listen to this when you have a moment of quiet, it’s my favourite poem “Breathe” by Becky Hemsley. It perfectly sums up why I find working outdoors so fulfilling and grounding.
I know it is a privilege to be able to do so, and I hope that everyone who comes out to our farm finds a little moment for a breath too. So here’s a gentle reminder: when things feel overwhelming, take a break, step outside, enjoy some fresh air, and listen to the trees.

Take out an entire dahlia bed with us. If only it was this easy! Now this bed is ready for compost and a fresh layer of mulch before a winter snooze.

Give your crispy plants a chance! Mother Nature is resilient and plants are often more hardy than we think. The lesson: give your sad plants a few days before you yard them out, they might just be planning their comeback tour!
One of the best things a gardener can learn is how to pinch back a plant. Pinching can be done to remove damage, spent blooms or to create a more bushy plant. It’s kind of the secret weapon of the garden and an activity that’s great to do if you are frustrated with something…or someone. Just sayin.

Popular isn’t always better! Last year we tried the photo organizer seed storage idea, and while it was fine the 1990’s photo album wins hands down! I find it so much easier to quickly find a particular seed and have a visual representation of how much seeding needs to be done (right now the answer is oodles). The bonus was I found the album in our Mom’s basement so it was free. A nice little reminder to do what works for YOU- not what works for everyone else!
