Paraphrase Productions Laura Froese is a family and wedding photographer, based on the West Coast of Canada, who has been capturing authentic moments and emotion for over 13 years.

She is also an international photography instructor and mama of three young boys. This page is a way for us to showcase some of our projects. Nicholas heads up the video side of our company as well as offering his services externally for production management and post-production work. Laura heads up the photography side of Paraphrase Productions offering photo shoots to individuals and fa

milies. To "paraphrase" is to express the meaning of something using different words. In our work, we seek to convey something that is intangible, like emotion, into something that people can see. We desire to seek out clarity and purpose in what we communicate by taking something that is stale and lifeless, and giving it emotion and story. In essence, paraphrasing it.

A gorgeous sunset is a rarity, but it does happen on weddings. This wedding had that for sure. However, I have shot HUNDREDS of weddings in my 12 years of doing them, but never have I ever had a random CAT join in the photoshoot and REFUSE to be left out. I couldn't even have them walk down the path because he would attack her dress. As a general rule, I avoid direct, on-camera flash at all times. In fact, I have an entire online workshop teaching how to shoot with it off your camera to look soft and natural. But in a rain storm, on a day that couldn't be rescheduled, with a tight timeline, and in a pitch-dark forest, you do what you need to do! This shoot would have literally been almost impossible without lighting of some sort. The trick is knowing your post-production and realizing that if you perfectly light the people, the rest of the image will look "off", so it's easier to shoot the whole thing "off" and then lighten it cohesively in post. AKA this isn't a "fail" or a "save", but this is a great lighting tip for wide shots like this with flash.
