Since opening in July 2018, Reimagine Co's zero-waste store has helped Londoners choose reusable and refillable alternatives to single-use products, eliminating more than 14,000 single-use bottles and 1 million straws in two short years.
As a community hub, Reimagine Co has provided a place and a space for community programs and activities bringing Londoners together to fix and repair items at Repair Café events; learn about waste reduction and other sustainable behaviours; and celebrate art, music and culture.
Reimagine Co has presented over 50 free workshops to over 1,800 participants in our space and at local schools, businesses and non-profits, teaching Londoners to reduce their waste and live more sustainably.
Our next big target is food waste.
Our Model
Our new building at 206 Piccadilly Street will add a package-free grocery store: no single-use packaging, just plant-based food that’s local, organic, fresh and affordable.
Here are some of the ways that we plan to tackle food waste:
You can buy as little as you need, or save by buying in bulk
We will source food as locally as possibly
We will sell food that is ugly (but still delicious)
We will donate leftover food to people experiencing homelessness and hunger
We will offer free workshops on how to choose, use and preserve food
Living a package-free lifestyle shouldn’t be expensive! Less packaging and less waste should mean less cost, as well as less environmental footprint.
Our Impact
As well as carrying all the reusable and refillable products that we currently offer, in our new store you can expect to find:
Fresh fruits and vegetables
Bulk foods (e.g. nuts, grains, beans, lentils, pasta, rice, candy)
Bulk liquids on tap (e.g. cooking oils, vinegars, maple syrup, kombucha, condiments)
Spices and seasonings sold by weight
Package-free frozen foods
Plant-based milks, cheeses, and proteins
Pre-prepared meals from our favourite London restaurants, ready for you to eat at home
By supporting us, you will help support the many local businesses we will be partnering up with, reduce environmental pollution, and reduce food waste by being able to buy only what you need (even if that means buying only one tablespoon of an ingredient)! We also work with our manufacturers and suppliers to reduce waste up the supply chain, encouraging our partners to switch to more sustainable packaging practises and setting up container reuse systems when we can.
Above all, our vision for our new space is for it to be a community hub, a place for folks who care about our earth to gather, a space for conscious connection, a multi-generational, diverse, welcoming place to drop into at any time, not just to buy package-free groceries or attend a workshop or event.
Our BYOC Program
BYOC = Bring Your Own Container!
We encourage customers to bring their own reusable containers to fill up on bulk goods. Forgot your own containers? We have sanitized reusable containers you can use.
Your safety is of paramount importance to us! We are in communication with the Health Unit and the City to implement protocols for handling customers’ containers that minimize possible Covid-19 transmission points.
Reimagine Co is for everyone, whether you're making the move to a reusable water bottle from plastic, or making your entire kitchen a low-waste haven. We support any and all efforts to reduce waste and we're here to help you find what works for you. Making sure that our space is accessible and welcoming to all is a fundamental part of who we are and what we stand for.
Reimagine Co’s new location is at 206 Piccadilly Street
Our new building is just west of Richmond Row in downtown London, in between the Kal-Tire garage and the plaza featuring Reverie, Hungry Ninja and Teavolution.
The building is still in London’s downtown core, it’s significantly larger than our current location, it has parking and is easily accessible by bike and bus.
We plan to open by November 2020. While our new space is over 4000 square feet, all on one level, we are beginning by renovating the front half of the building only and the rest at a later date.
