Marv gives some information about himself 🤩

"A resident of Orillia since September, 2020.
Doctorate in Biochemistry (when I had all my brain cells).
I have written over 60 songs that I consider keepers and another 20 on the periphery.
First gig - Mynah Bird Coffee House in the Yorkville area of Toronto most winter weekends while I was in Canada for Grade 13.
I played traditional folk songs while bikini clad go go dancers did their thing in small cages to my left and right.
Many of my tunes have been covered by other artists - rock, country and bluegrass."

Folk & Blues Collective will be held next Tuesday, July 18th at 7PM at the Midland Cultural Centre 🎤🎶

Featured Performers of that night are the incredibly talented, Reid & Margaret Wilson

Reid and Margaret are familiar faces at the Open Mic at the MCC both as performers and Reid as show host.

Reid has been singing and playing guitar since he was 14. Major influences have been Gordon Lightfoot and John Denver among many others. He has shared his talent and joy of music in several different groups over the years: a folk trio “Faded Denim”; a men’s Scottish quartet “Claidhmor”; a five person folk group “FullCircle” with a studio produced CD “No Straight Lines” in 2002; and most recently “AfterGlow”, a folk/pop Trio that included Margaret and their good friend Marilynn Massie. Reid arranged most of the songs on their studio CD “Reflections” which was released in 2012.

Margaret realized her love of singing more recently, thanks to Sweet Adelines, a women’s acapella barbershop organization. She sang in two Sweet Ad choruses spanning almost 20 years.

Now Reid and Margaret, with their shared love of singing in harmony, enjoy performing, mostly as a Duo.

Come check them out and some other great talent Tuesday night!

Folk & Blues Collective!

Matt Playne, the talented singer-songwriter hailing from Midland, Ontario, has been making waves in the Canadian music scene since a young age.

Matt was introduced to music as a child through his own mother's love of the music from the Phantom of The Opera, which she played in the car for him. As a result, Matt started singing and performing traditional music at local music festivals during elementary school, and by high school, he had begun writing his own original songs, using them as a creative outlet for his soulful voice and heartfelt lyrics.

At just 16 years old, Matt made his first mark on the Canadian music industry when he finished in the top 50 of the final season of Canadian Idol, setting his career on a path to success. Drawing inspiration from musical legends such as City and Colour and John Mayer, Matt has performed at countless venues since, ranging from concert halls to intimate bars and private events, captivating audiences all across Ontario.

Matt's musical journey continued when he recorded an album of original songs while studying music at The University of Western Ontario. Matt's musical style is characterized by his signature acoustic singer-songwriter music, which exudes a melodic and folk-inspired sound, drawing from his musical influences and experiences.

Currently, Matt is hard at work booking shows across Simcoe County and beyond, while creating new songs and recording demos in his home studio, with the dream of signing a record deal with a major Canadian record label.
With his soulful voice, exceptional musical talent, and heartfelt lyrics, Matt Playne is a rising star to watch in the Canadian music scene.

Stay up to date with shows and new music at mattplayne.ca.

Come check out Matt and some other great local performers for a fun night out!
