The meaning of Three Sisters Soup, our event appertizer
3 sisters emerged from the sacred soil where the Original Woman was laid to rest:
One stood tall and represented corn.
One enjoyed solitary play and represented beans.
One crawled along the earth and represented squash.

Like the Three Sisters, the three vegetables help each other grow and flourish when they are planted together. The corn support the bean. The vines of the bean help the corn withstand strong winds. They also feed the soil with nitrogen. The leaves of the squash provide protection and keep the soil cool, moist, and shaded. Its prickly leaves keep away hungry animals.

The Three Sisters Soup is more than a legend about importance of cooperation. Through its telling from generation, the Haudenosaunee confederation, made up of the Mohawk, Oneida, Onondaga, Cayuga, Seneca,
And Tuscarora First Nations, has passed on this ancient gardening technique.
