Dahomeyan (French-Haitian)Workshop taught by Danys Pérez-Prades from New York City.

Originally from Santiago de Cuba, Danys "La Mora" Pérez Prades is an internationally renowned master of Afro-Cuban folkloric dance. Pérez is an expert dancer, teacher, dance ethnologist, and choreographer specializing in all the unique styles of Afro-Cuban Culture and of her native region of the Oriente province in Eastern Cuba, a region whose cultural richness is attributable to its infusion of Afro-Haitian influences to an already vibrant Afro-Cuban context. At 13, she was asked to join the renowned national folkloric ballet company, Cutumba, with which she toured internationally with the company for 18 years.

Good evening, everyone!

I trust that you all had a delightful weekend and are now recuperating well. Personally, I was so fatigued last night that I cannot even recall the act of climbing into bed, haha.

I would like to take this chance to express my sincere gratitude to all of you who graced this festival with your presence. It is my utmost hope that you had a truly enjoyable experience.

I would like to express my gratitude towards the teachers, performers, and DJs for their unwavering dedication and exceptional professionalism which significantly contributed to the seamless management of the event.

I would like to extend my heartfelt appreciation to all the dedicated members of the volunteer team who sacrificed their time this weekend to ensure the success of this event.

I would like to thank Edward Ferdinand and his team for skillfully capturing all the wonderful memories from the event. I also would like to thank Geghani Panosian for her short documentary on Cuban dance.

I would also like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Bella Avudria & Monica Rojita for their invaluable assistance in coordinating and arranging this remarkable event.

Looking forward, I am already preparing for the planning of the 3rd edition of the Festival. If you have any suggestions or advice, please do not hesitate to share them. Your input will be highly valued.
