Tulip planting is underway! This is so much nicer than last year when we had to plant in the cold pouring rain and heavy mud soil!

It's always so fun to see these guys in flowers, just nestled into the petals. And there are a lot of them! Seeing little animals like these tree frogs around the farm really shows the success of our work to build and maintain healthy, biodiverse farmland, for generations to come.

The one thing about the cold is that some of the ranuculus are still producing beautifully.

It's really interesting for me to see the difference in microclimates this year - in a normal year the ranunculus would likely be long done, and for many growers they are, with peonies now in full swing. But we're still a week or two away with our peonies. Crazy times. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Our new salad mix is a perfect example, bringing together eight different varieties of sweet, crispy lettuce, with an elegant little edible garnish of viola and kale flowers. Class up that salad!

This vibrant, giant, strong and long stemmed tulip is called Renown Unique. And might be one of my new favourites. (At least for today 😉). We have bunches of these, as well as some mixed ranunculus and anemone bouquets, stocked at our farm stand this week.

Picking up one of our beautiful mixed spring vases from the farmstand this weekend? Just a reminder, if you ever recut your flower ends, be sure to keep the daffodils in separate water for at least half an hour before adding back in with the rest of the flowers. Daffodils release a sticky sap right after cutting that will kill other flowers in the water.
