The 9th Annual Symposium on Cytokines in Inflammation, Ageing, CanCer, and Obesity (CIACCO-2022) will be held on April 21-22 in Sherbrooke, Canada.

CIACCO symposium seeks to advance education and research in cytokine biology and attracts each year around 120 graduate students and faculty members to present their research, get feedback and establish contacts within the cytokine research community.

The 2nd Rhode Island Microbiome Symposium is being held this week and we are excited to see so many interesting topics being discussed.

The symposium will include keynote speakers Dr. Alvaro Sanchez (Yale) and Dr. Sue Ishaq (University of Maine), formal talks from Rhode Island researchers, lightning talks for students and postdocs, and a poster session.

The organizing committee hopes this symposium will stimulate networking and result in new collaborations, grant proposals, and manuscripts (some of the things we love most about conferences!) We hope all speakers and participants have a great time!

Presenting at a conference and still feeling insecure about it? Here are some tips to help you prepare for it and keep your nerves in check whenever presenting to an audience.

1- Plan to arrive early at the venue & confirm where you will be speaking. If it is an online conference, join the meeting in advance and make sure everything is working as it should (microphone, camera, etc.)

2- Have a water bottle next to you so you can drink it while presenting (it will help to take breaks while presenting)

3- If it’s an in-person presentation, empty your pockets so you (and your audience) have fewer distractions when presenting. If you are presenting online, empty your table.

4- Wear a watch or bring your phone to keep an eye on the time

5- Once your presentation and networking are over, allow yourself to relax
