📣Global Convention Services named preferred display company provider Calgary Stampede 📣

After an extensive RFP process, the BMO Centre at Stampede Park has named Global Convention Services as its preferred display company provider, as well as the exclusive external business provider for decaling services beginning January 1, 2024.

As the preferred display company provider, Global Convention Services brings the expertise to fully support trade shows, conventions, and special events, with services such as floor plan design, full pipe and drape, or hard wall installations, material handling, advanced warehousing, custom booth displays, carpet, executive furniture and much more. As the exclusive external business provider for decaling services, Global Convention Services will provide all product and installation/removal services for any event branding that involves the adhesion of materials to a venue. This includes such applications as, but not limited to, floor decals, window applications, pillar or wall wraps and elevator/escalator decaling.

Here is why Chris is raising money: Globally, more than 1.4M men are diagnosed with prostate cancer each year. Movember is working to reduce the number of deaths from prostate cancer, and I want to help them get there. Help me stop men dying too young. For those that may not know, I receive the news in the spring of 2019 that I had prostate cancer. Being diagnosed early was critical and thankfully my Urologist was one of the best in Atlantic Canada and after weighting my options I chose surgery. I am now 4 years free and while I know there is a possibility it may rear its ugly head again, getting regular test is one of the best ways to prevent being caught off guard.
Thank you for supporting our fight to reduce the number of deaths from prostate cancer.

NHL Heritage Classic in Edmonton! 🏒

The Global Alberta team, Ashley, Shaun, Ashtyn, Angela & Dave, were all smiles after working the NHL Heritage Classic outdoor game on October 29th in Edmonton.

Global’s impact included show dressing throughout Commonwealth Stadium by carpeting both Calgary & Edmonton’s dressing rooms with color coordinated and custom cut carpet.

It was a fun & unique event for the staff and a major project for the Edmonton market.

We’ve appointed an exciting new general manager for British Columbia! 🥳

Joe will be responsible for overseeing Global’s British Columbia operations, including shaping the culture throughout both branches, building out the team further, general business management, project ex*****on and relationship building. Joe will guide interactions with staff, facilities, and event and industry partners. Additionally, he will assist all members of the British Columbia team in setting and achieving their professional goals. Joe will provide leadership to sales and operations teams during project planning and ex*****on, with a goal of ensuring customer satisfaction throughout.

Joe Buckle is an experienced and process-driven operations specialist with an innovative mindset. Joe brings a decade of managerial experience gained in multiple industries and countries. Originally from London, England but having travelled extensively throughout his life, Joe initially broke into the events industry in Australia. Joe really developed his expertise during a 4-year tenure as the AGM at Showtime event and display in Vancouver where he managed a portfolio of approximately 120 shows annually, including prestigious events such as the HSBC rugby 7's, AME roundup, TED talks, GFS roadshow and many more.

When COVID-19 hit the industry in 2020, Joe was forced back to the United Kingdom, however he has maintained his career progression. Most recently as the Head of National Operations for a tech driven start up that was recently named as one of Europe's top 20 emerging businesses.

Stephen Furze brings with him extensive and broad reaching business experience, primarily client facing and ranging from consumer-packaged goods with such brands as The Walt Disney Company and EMI Music, consumer electronics with Shaw Cable, as well as managing and producing music productions touring across North America. For the last seven years Stephen has been with DMG Events, leading their commercial activities for a portfolio of large scale B2B events, including the Global Energy Show, International Pipeline Exposition, ISA Calgary Show, Atlantic Canada Petroleum Show, and CanWeld Exposition & Conference. Stephen has also had the opportunity to support Canadian businesses on the international stage, directing all aspects of taking a Canadian Pavilion to the Abu Dhabi, at the world’s largest oil and gas event ADIPEC.

About us:
Global Convention Services is seeking a results-oriented individual to join our team as a trade show installer for our Halifax branch.

Global is a family-owned event decorating company operating since 1989, with eight branches in five provinces across Canada. Our core services include but are not limited to trade show décor, event furniture rentals, event electrical distribution, event printing and signage, material handling, shipping, customs and brokerage, and display installation and dismantle services. Some of our recurring clients are Hal-Con, Halifax RV Show, Spring Ideal Home Show, Motorcycle and Powersport Show, Halifax International Boat Show, as well as many other regional, national, and international trade shows, and local sporting and theatre events. Every event is different, which means every day brings new and exciting tasks and challenges.

About the role:
The trade show installer position will be an integral part of our Halifax operations. This candidate will work closely with other installers, warehouse supervisor and will report to the Halifax operations manager. This candidate’s primary responsibility will be to set up and teardown all our trade shows and events. This candidate will directly contribute to the organization’s success by working with other installers as the backbone of our organization.

We are looking for driven individuals who are interested in learning and growing with our organization. If the candidate shows interest, skill, and drive, they will have the opportunity for expanded responsibilities within the organization.

Responsibilities:
• Develop a basic understanding of the material handling process (how freight moves from our warehouse to event facilities, and so on)
• Load and unload equipment and freight by hand or using pallet jacks and forklifts
• Install trade shows and other event rentals, including pipe and drape, carpet, furniture, signage, and so on
• Ensure all installed equipment is left clean, presentable and in working order for clients
• When onsite, answer any exhibitor or client questions or direct them to someone within the organization who can help
• Maintain a positive attitude toward coworkers and clients

Requirements:
• Ability to work and thrive in a collaborative team environment made up of installers and management
• Experience juggling multiple tasks at once
• Ability to function and maintain a professional attitude under tight deadlines and long work hours
• Must have a flexible schedule and the ability to work long hours, evenings, and weekends, as needed
• Must be able to carry a minimum of 50 pounds
• A valid driver’s license is required

Candidates with the following skills/experience will be given preference and a higher hourly pay rate:
• Forklift training and experience
• Carpentry skills and experience
• Electrical knowledge and experience
• Experience driving 3-tonne, 5-tonne or larger trucks
• Experience installing vinyl adhesive graphics
• Experience leading small teams of 5-10 operational staff
