My little Cali-roo is gonna be 4 this summer. How time flies.
She adds sooo much love and fun to our lives. I canโt remember what life was like before she came along.
Ps. You can get dog bandanas like Caliโs orange polka dot one made by @enduredesigns at @hearthandmantlegiftery @empireofdirtsquamish in #downtownsquamish
Endure Upcycled Designs is committed to creating reusable and long lasting products from locally sourced reclaimed materials, like burlap coffeebean sacks from @galileocoffeeco; linen shirts from @pearlsvalue; upholstery sample books from @annasinteriors and @bowermansfurniture ๐๐๐
We strive for zero waste using every bit of material up, even so far as turning my bin of small scraps into stuffing for pillows. โป๏ธโป๏ธโป๏ธ
We offer a repair and alteration service and we recover your used patio cushions because fixing what you have is better than replacing it with something new. ๐๐๐
We are a vendor at our local Farmers' Market which is only 2 blocks away from our home studio! We carpool with another vendor that takes public transit to the market. @melonheadknitwear @squamishfarmersmarket ๐ฑ๐ฑ๐ฑ
We have an online shop where we use recycled shipping envelopes and boxes that our local customers save for us! โป๏ธโป๏ธโป๏ธ
We make our own cleaning products using common ingredients that we can buy at our local soap dispensary about 50 steps from our front door @becleannaturally We buy laundry strips to wash all our textiles and clothing from a local Squamish company @theecolivingclub ๐๐๐
We are doing what we can, but we stop and think everyday about how we can do better! Happy Earth Day! ๐๐๐

#mycoffeedate Dad and I went to @bean_brackendale for coffee and blueberry scones after Erik took us for a local flight around Squamish on Easter Monday.โโโ
Easter Sunday, I had a socially distanced visit and walk with my friend @toby.jaxon along the old golf course and all the way to @normanrudys and the green space around it. I snapped so many photosover those two days, that it's going to take some time to sort through them all before posting. ๐ท
Easter Monday we made a stirfry and ordered a couple of dishes from Dragon Terrace @downtownsquamish
to add to our meal. We love their lemon chicken! ๐๐๐
I hemmed three pairs of pants for a client today and worked on recovering a foam cushion bench seat, backrest and throw pillows. ๐๐๐
Loving the sun today! โ๏ธโ๏ธ๐ It helps get me outside and get me steps in! #tenthousandsteps

Mixed Media Art! ๐ธ๐ธ๐ธ Here is some more progress on my fabric mosaic squares that I've been working on and an announcement below!
I was gifted a box of discarded printed circuit boards from my friend @brian.aikens with a challenge to include some of them in my artwork to create tech-art. ๐ฉโ๐ป๐ฉโ๐ป๐ฉโ๐ป
So, I picked out these little green circuit boards that are 3 inches long to embellish the fabric mosaic squares I created. I wanted to mute the vibrant colour at bit, so I started by giving them a light wash with some creamy yellow acrylic paint. ๐๐๐
Once dry, I tacked them onto my fabric using a little glue, then secured and embellished with embroidery stitches using a metallic gold cord. ๐งต๐งต๐งต
I really enjoyed taking my time with hand stitching and used a variety of stitches. It brought me back to a time when I was a child learning to stitch with a needle and thread from my Oma and my Mom. This was so therapeutic for me and gave me something creative to focus on at a slow speed. ๐ธ๐ธ๐ธ
Now for the Announcement:
I have submitted 4 of my Teeny Tiny Connections Mixed Media Pieces to @artswhistler for their "Teeny Tiny Art Show" Mar 11 to May 1, 2021 at the Maurey Young Arts Centre in Whistler BC!
Back for its fourth year, the Teeny Tiny Show proves, good things do come in small packages! Over 170 artists from the Sea to Sky corridor have created mini masterpieces โ all under 3 by 3 inches.
Stayed tuned to see how I mounted my fabric squares for hanging! ๐ธ๐ธ๐ธ

Part 3 of my time lapse video! I figured out how to add music this time! ๐ป๐ป๐ป
Ive taken my finished piece of fabric mosaic 10x30 inches from the last video and cut it into 12@ 5 inch squares with my rotary cutter. ๐ธ
Then, each piece is stitched onto a 5 inch square of natural linen. Trimmed to square it up. Then finished the edge with my serger.๐ธ
These 12 squares will each become a finished mixed media art piece in a limited edition series called "Teeny Tiny Connections" ๐ธ
Stay tuned to see how I embellish and mount them for hanging and to find out more about the art show in Whistler that they were created for.๐ธ
At a time when we are all feeling disconnected from each other, I wanted a way to remind us and give us hope that we are still connected by our common threads. I want to remind us to celebrate the small ways that help us feel together with the ones we love even though we may be physically at a distance. ๐ธ
I talk to my Dad (he's 88!) on the phone almost every day to check in on him and to see if he needs anything. We drop by his house and have short visits in the driveway with him and my stepmom at a distance and always wearing masks. It's not the same as pre-covid, but it's something. However small. And doing so, keeps us connected. ๐ธ
Sending love to all of you! Stay safe! Do something small that makes you happy! ๐ธ

The
Here is Part Two of the time lapse video that I made to document my process in making a new series of mixed media pieces called CONNECTIONS.๐ธ
I have stiched a fabric mosaic using a washable stabilizer to secure small scrap fabrics leftover from a variety of projects or salvaged from vintage textiles. ๐ธ
It looks pretty simple here, but it takes a fair amount of effort to remove the stabilizer and Im incredibly pleased with the results! I especially like the frayed edges of the pink floral fabric that is reclaimed from a dress that I hemmed for a client.โป๏ธ
One of the things I find helpful in combating mental illness like #anxiety and #depression is to work on something creative. This fabric mosaic is a manageable size 10 x25 inches and made from many small pieces, so it helps me to hyper focus on it for short periods of time, letting my daily stresses fall away for bit and offering some mental relief.๐ธ
Stay tuned to see more of my process and to find out about the art show that it was created for.๐ธ
