I’m signing off for 9 days to go camping up in Northern Ontario. I’m going to leave you with some more musings I’ve had this week…
This beauty narcissus poeticus grown by has had my head in the books. I had a client reach out recently asking me about this variety as she saw it in Romania and wanted to know if she could grow them here. Learning that this is considered one of the first cultivated varieties of daffodils, and that is associated with my favorite myth about Persephone and Hades made it all the more intriguing. It has plenty of folklore around death, rebirth and speaks to the long fascination humans have had with the beauty of the natural world.
And yes, they have become naturalized here in Ontario.

A new moon and a solar eclipse all on the second year anniversary of Dogwood, an auspicious time for change and putting down the seeds for what is to come in year three 🌑
This moon energy has me feeling all sorts of ways for what is ahead but mostly I am excited. As of June 1st, the retail location of Dogwood will be closing. We will still be available for weekly online ordering and you will still find our weekly flowers at Cuisine, in Thornbury. Plus, we have some more exciting news to share in the coming months on where to find us next.
I am aligning with what has been feeling right for me and flowers this past year, and closing the physical location is opening the door to work on more events, more weddings and prioritize creativity.
I know that this change is a big one but I feel so safe in pivoting this way because you have always supported Dogwood and cheered on as we have grown. Community is such a big part of what Dogwood is, and I know that we will continue to support and collaborate with our amazing community here in Grey County.
Thank you for so much love these past two years, we can’t wait for year three ✨

I have a close friend who was born on April 7th, we’ve been friends for 17 years now, and without a doubt it always snows the week of her birthday, if not on her birthday ❄️🌨️ so you can blame her for this snowy week 😘

For years now my pa plants close to 100 new trees on his property and every year he complains about the rain or lack there of because of the trees ✨🌲

We started a good number of seeds this week. It is going to be our first year inching into growing our own flowers. I was raised by avid vegetable and flower growers, and watching my mum plant pansies is one of my earliest garden memories. The next is probably how watering the veggies felt like the biggest chore to a small child, but I really loved the mud so it was overshadowed by the fact that I could make tons of mud… much to my mums dismay as I overwatered everything!

Hi there, I’m Meg, the florist and artist that’s behind Dogwood! Coming from a background in art history and sculpture/installation, I found my calling in flower design. Let me introduce myself ✨ •My favorite flower is the tulip! •I ride a vintage motorcycle and am always trying to figure out how to do flower deliveries on it. •As your wedding florist I’ll try to convince you to have less flowers for more impact. Think installations over bar/greeting/gift table arrangements and a stunning bridal bouquet over wearables! •I love the smell when the earth wakes up in the spring and when it goes to sleep in the autumn. •My favorite part of being a florist is how much play there is in my day-to-day. •I love to read about Celtic mythology and Eastern European folklore and this greatly influences my style.
