Breaking Barriers: My Mission to Inspire and Empower Female DJs in Hamilton & GTA area

When I started DJing 9 years ago I was learning alongside other females who had connections for shows, but unfortunately I did not being in a city far away from my own. I always wondered why no one would put in a good word for me. I do recall some saying they are very competitive, which makes sense why they wouldn’t want to support my dreams if they thought it would compromise their own dreams. But In my mind I do not view artistry as competition.
Even when I was a competitive gymnast, it was never about competition in my mind and my heart, it was way more about self growth and improvement.
With this mindset I have helped female djs in Hamilton and other areas of the GTA get bookings for their first shows. I put in good words for them in hopes that someone will trust my judgment. Being an artist and DJing is not selfish for me, it’s about growing a community of like minded people who are in need of expressing their creativity through music and mixing. I do not make fun of people who are learning how to dj and still use sync, or do not mix the way I do, we all have our own way of learning and growing. FYI lol.
When I started to dj I was constantly criticized for how I organized my music, having lyrics in my songs, just ridiculous things tbh and I think this set the tone for me to inspire other woman to DJ more. So thank you for the past because I wouldn’t be here today, even though those moments were hard for me and impacted me a lot in a negative way, I am still growing and learning from the past and trying to let it go.
I believe we need more people inspiring others and helping them grow their confidence with their dreams, instead of putting them down and criticizing them. Some people shut down when being criticized and others will try to prove to someone who criticized them that they are worthy and in my opinion to create art with that mindset is not allowing the artist to reach their full potential… 👍
Just wanted to share something personal with you all and to remind everyone that this community isn’t about popularity and being the best, it’s about giving EVERYONE the opportunity to put themselves out there and for them to grow as artists because us humans are all artists, and we deserve to express ourselves however we desire. One LOVE.
