Just wanted to share some of the gorgeous colour changes on our outdoor bonsais! Look at the red of the maple and the coppery dawn redwoods. LOVE how these smaller trees exhibit the same behaviours as their full-size counterparts.

The end of summer already! I'm going to miss my gardens over the summer. It fills me with so much joy being able to go outside and feel the sun on my face, choose the flowers from my gardens that will compliment whatever current arrangement that I'm working on. I've discovered a new joy in flipping....

Please visit my most recent blog post. I should probably write more often but this one really meant something to me. :)
My grandfather loved marigolds. The walkway leading up to his house was lined with marigolds on both sides and every week, I would sit outside pulling the weeds from his beautiful marigold beds. Inside there would be a crisp $2.00 bill waiting for me. To this day I still have four of those bills. My...

We all love to receive flowers but how do we keep them looking their best for as long as possible? There are simple things that you can do!
1. Keep your flowers away from direct sunlight or heat sources. Warmth causes them to mature faster!
2. Keep flowers away from fruit and vegetables. This one is weird but important - ripening fruits and vegetables give off ethylene gas which cause the flowers to mature faster and drop their petals.
3. Change the water in the vase every 2-3 days to prevent bacteria build up (we’ve all done it - left the water too long so that it gets cloudy looking and smelly). Bonus points if you wash the vase.
4. Using a sharp knife or scissors, cut at least a 1/2” off the bottom of stems every time you change the water or when they are out of water for a period of time.
5. Ensure there are no leaves, petals, flowers etc in the water by removing any below the water line. Those are bacteria waiting to happen!
6. Remove dying flowers from the arrangement. Some types (carnations, mums) last longer than others (roses, snapdragons) and dying flowers may prematurely age those.
7. Flowers that are in floral foam (a green or black foam block) instead of a vase MUST be kept wet! And some flowers, regardless of how they’re kept, will never thrive in floral foam (such as hydrangea).
8. Finally, feed your flowers every time you change the water! Pre-measured water-soluble cut flower food is the most simple solution but there are tons of “home remedy” suggestions online such as bleach, vodka, sprite, aspirin, etc etc. While I have not tried any of these suggestions and cannot recommend any of them, I’m always curious to hear your tried and true tricks for keeping your flowers longer! Let me know in the comments. 🌹

Did you know we are not just flowers?
We were actually propagating and selling plants for several years under the name Trades of Eden when I decided to return to my floral roots.
Keep an eye out for more plant posts as well as a video tour of what we affectionally refer to as “Bonsai Alley”!

Another gorgeous photo that was shared with me! Gosh they make me so happy.
I would like to take this opportunity to remind everyone how important Google reviews are to small businesses.
More Google reviews means a business is more likely to appear higher in search results. Google searches really are a popularity contest. It’s much harder for a small business if they don’t come up in a search!
Most people are more likely to choose a business that has many good reviews as well. You can see how it’s cyclical. More reviews —> more business —> more reviews. I’m a big fan of giving businesses credit where credit is due. In fact, I need to go leave a review for our Pembroke BarBurrito Canada. Deeeeeeeeelish!
So on that note, please take a few moments to drop a review for me. Good, not so good, your feedback and support is important to me!

I love, LOVE this photo that was shared. It’s always crazy to think about how much effort I put into my flowers just for a week, a day, even just a moment. It’s not about the flowers though, it’s about the feeling that it gives the recipient upon receiving their flowers. These photos are my favourite part of what I do and I hope I receive more. ❤️🤞🏻

The last of the grad orders are going out today! I couldn’t have asked for a better first grad season in business as a solo, uninhibited florist. Your support means the world to me.
Congratulations graduates of 2023!

Confession time: I was working on a last minute sympathy piece yesterday and ran out of white flowers. I needed just a few more so I ran to a local grocery store to pick up a couple cheap bouquets. They looked fine on the outside but this is what they looked like once unwrapped.
Florists are often asked why their flowers are more expensive than those at grocery and big box stores. Let me give you some of the reasons why:
🌸 Those bouquets have arrived pre-wrapped, no leaves removed, nothing done to them. The store is profiting just for putting them in a bucket.
🌸 They come with very little variety or greenery. Not saying it’s a bad thing, it’s just a fact.
🌸 If the flowers are not kept in a cooler, they are not going to last as long. Some places have them, some don’t.
🌸 My skill and knowledge in arranging, as well as the time spent in caring for each flower and the careful prep to use them.
🌸 Finally, and most importantly, I can guarantee no flower will ever leave my studio in this state.
💐 You DO NOT need to settle for lower quality flowers if you have a tight budget. I will work with you! 💐

One of today’s arrangements! This bouquet had the most fabulous textures between the fluffy solidago, the spiky blue thistles, and the variety of greens.

Did you know most of the fresh-cut flowers in our industry come long distances - California, Florida, Colombia, Ecuador, Holland, etc? We do get many from within the province as well but it would be quite difficult to find the variety that our customers enjoy.
Taking great time and care in receiving, prepping, hydrating and storing our florals ensures you receive high quality arrangements that will remain fresher longer.
