Calgary-based country artist Robert Gosse is known for delivering high-energy, authentic performances backed by strong songwriting and a dynamic stage presence. Raised in a musical household, with his father Bobby Gosse a well-known figure in the Calgary scene, Robert was surrounded by music from an early age before stepping into his own as a performer.

Blending traditional country influences with a modern edge, his sound reflects a wide range of inspirations — from Johnny Cash to Zac Brown — giving his music a distinct and relatable style. His early breakout came with a viral YouTube parody that helped kick start his career and led to the formation of his band.

Since then, Robert has steadily built momentum with releases like Blackjack, In a Country Song, Drink em' if you got em' and Who’s Running This Town, the latter earning radio play on SiriusXM and a nomination for Country Recording of the Year at the YYC Music Awards.

It was 1969, Donna Ramsay, the daughter of legendary Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario radiobroadcaster, Don Ramsay, had just finished recording her debut album for Capitol Records produced by Gary Buck. His next recording project was for LeRoy Anderson.

Gary and his wife invited both Donna and LeRoy over to their home in Kitchener Ontario and the sparks soon flew between the two new friends. Individually, both artists hadchart hits. Donnawith‘Bittersweet’ and ‘Cool Green Waters’and LeRoy with a string offive chart singles in the early 70s, including his signature release, ‘Balzac Boogie’. Donna and LeRoy walked down the aisle in 1972 and in 1974 decided it was time tobecome a duo professionally too.

A move to Toronto ensued with the two building a career in the hotels and coffee lounges of that big city. After a late-night summer club gig, Donna had a lot on her mind including packing the duo for a three-week working trip to New Zealand.

After an unexpected phone call from Tommy himself in the summer of 1975, Donna and LeRoy agreed to be a part of the “Tommy Hunter Show” on CBC television. The duo remained as “regulars” on the show for the following 17 years until 1992 when the show concluded its television run. Following the demise of the “Tommy Hunter Show”, Donna & LeRoy relocated to Nashville where they pursued a duo recording career, releasing their highly acclaimed, ‘Livin’ on Love’ album on Boot Records, followed by a series of nationally charted duet and solo singles released on the Bookshop and Cardinal labels.

Donna and LeRoy moved back to Canada in the fall of 2018 and now reside in Calgary Alberta. Today, Donna and LeRoy continue to perform across Canada and the US and LeRoy remains active as a songwriter with his songs being recorded by Nashville and Canadian artists.

We are so happy to have Donna & Leroy back at the Southern Alberta Music Festival again this year!

Fraid Knot!!!

Meet Fraid Knot – a band once dubbed by a local journalist as “western Canada’s hardest working ambassadors of contemporary Celtic music.” Influenced by the sounds of the musical pioneers who’ve journeyed down this path before, the band’s distinctive “Celt” sound is defined by the eclectic mix of musical personalities that have come together to create what we know today as Fraid Knot.

Calmer than the Drop Kick Murphy’s, edgier than Great Big Sea, happier than the Pogues, and still traditional enough to please the ear of many a purist, Fraid Knot truly bridges the gap between Celtic and Rock. The band is a technical, high-energy group of musicians who embrace elements from Scottish, Irish, and of course Canadian music to serve up their own unique “knotified” sound that is present in both original music as well as their interpretation of Celtic classics.

We are thrilled to announce that Garrett Gregory will be at the 14th Annual Southern Alberta Music Festival this year.

A breakout country artist with genuine charm, Garrett Gregory will take you to a whole new level of “entertained”.

When he’s not on stage singing his heart out, you can find him volunteering at the SPCA or singing to his own two cats at home. Don’t be fooled though, this vocal shredding cat dad puts his own spin on what he likes about country music and then rubs it in dirt.

Dallas Smith, Chris Daughtry and Patrick Droney are among the few artists that inspire him to do what he loves, how he loves it. His unique brand of entertainment fuses a tight, high energy sound with a wildly driving show that will leave you wanting more.

Hailed as ‘ Hanna’s Second best country band’ by Nickelback, Gregory has opened for the Brothers Osborne and Riley Green. His single “She Don’t Need to Drink to Dance” was released to international radio and Sirius XM on July 9th, 2024.
