Follow @iamdreams to Boracay 2001. This island is truly magical and most people who get there realize this. In the early 2000s Boracay had earned it's reputation as a tropical paradise. It was a part of the Lonely Planet traveler's route that brought in thousands of European and Americans tourists throughout the winter season. Many foreigners stayed on and started up many of the businesses that helped make the island so special and appealing. True Food was an iconic part of Boracay's tourist landscape and a perfect place to teach a Yoga class. For many Yogis, being at the beach- and on this beach in particular, brings about a feeling of robust good health. It's also easier to practice your headstands and handstands on sand!
1974- Shihir Inocalla was barely out of his teens when he found himself in an Indian jail, in the middle of a civil war. He had already spent years as a celibate devotee of Ananda Marga, having taken a vow of poverty, serving their mission. He had spent time in Indian orphanages and war relief missions in Bangladesh. There were years posted in Canada and the U..S. sharing his Guru's teachings. When sent back to India he had intended to ask his Guru for permission to leave- to give up his vows for good. It would take 9 months in jail before that could happen. He had been arrested for disturbing the peace. " I was meditating!" Shihir says.
Follow iamdreams as we hear from FILIPINO YOGI: Datu Shihir Inocalla of Modern Arnis.

#Yogafound Portrait of a Filipino Yogi 1980- Victor Martelino
He gave up everything and joined Ananda Marga, travelling the world in service of the Guru for years. This is a Yoga practice so radically different from buying a $100 dollar pair of Yoga pants and taking "classes" at the mall twice a week that perhaps only the word remains the same.
