Smoked Salmon.
Smoked Salmon has been around for years but it really gained growth in the twenties. Especially in modern times, Smoked Salmon has become extremely popular over the years with gravlax, bagels, platters, and more! There are many places and brands of Smoked salmon but one place that makes great Smoked Salmon is the Gaspesian Coast in Quebec. The grand Cascapedia River is known for its Salmon fishing, many celebs even visit the area to fish and stay at the camps along the river. This small, close knit community is proud of what they're known for - and it just to happens to be where our group member Chance's family originally came from! Fashion! Totally the cat's pajamas!
As of the early 1920s, the world was still recovering from the world war. The main characteristic to these new looks was simplicity. Something that wasn't a norm within women’s fashion.  The most popular  “la garçonne” look that dominated much of the decade which was also known as the flapper, visualized a dropped waist and creeping hemlines that could be made with cheap and affordable fabrics.  Now while womens fashion showcased simplicity in the 1920s so did menswear. Men moved away from ironed collars and formal suits during the day. Instead, simpler British wools and English tailored looks became the thing to wear. Wider cut pants also became commonly worn by the younger crowds, perhaps the male equivalent of the flappers.

Prohibiton & Parties.
The 18th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution–which banned the manufacture, transportation and sale of intoxicating liquors–roared itself in a period in American history known as prohibition! This became official and went into effect on January 17, 1920. The increase of the illegal production and sale of liquor (known as “bootlegging”), the creation of speakeasies (illegal drinking spots) all helped lead to the wanting of the prohibition to end. In early 1933, Congress decided to repeal the amendment and create the 21st. The 21st Amendment was official on December 5, 1933, ending the Prohibition!

East vs West Coast Oysters! 🦪
Oysters have been a part of the human diet for thousands of years. They are regularly consumed on six of the seven continents by millions of people. Oysters have a rich history in New York especially in the 1920s, served to the upper class at the all the swingin parties. Like wine, though, oysters can vary greatly in appearance, taste, and texture depending on where they’re from.

Oysters Rockafeller
When you hear Rockefeller you may think of the affluent family or you may think of a certain major television network that happened to start in 1926, though they didn't move to 30 Rock til 1933 when the building opened. Or where a giant Christmas tree is placed every year. But when you hear Oysters Rockafeller I can't help but think of one thing, decadence, delicacy, delicious! Okay that's three things but they all start with the same letter. That letter happens to be the same letter our shuckers name starts with, stay tuned to meet Damon.

Charleston, Foxtrot, Raccoon!
As the tensions of World War 1 went away, a lot of American women started challenging the social norm through dance. At this time they were fighting for independence and pushed against the stereotype of being modest, stay at home mothers. These women, were now known as “flappers,”  in which they smoked, drank, danced and broke many social traditions. The 1920s witnessed the creation of many new and returning dances. Earlier in the twenties, flappers appropriated the “Charleston,” originating from an African descent. In addition to the “Charleston,” these styles included “Black Bottom,” “Raccoon,” “Varsity Drag,” “Foxtrot,” and “Tango”. Social dancing at nightclubs, however, won most peoples’ favor. While one of the most amazing parts of the 1920s focused on dances, the main destination for this cultural phenomenon was located in New York City. Harlem, in particular, attracted attention for its late night parties. Visitors came from across the world just to get to experience it. And now we can't wait to have our dance instructor Pauline come on from Toronto and show you all how to swing it!

Lot40 Rye 🥃
Here you can see why our very own Cedric decided to go with Lot40 for our "Rye won't you call me" cocktail!
"Lot40 has an interesting history in that it's distilled in the same distillery that was popular with smugglers from the US during prohibition!

Aside from its interesting history, Lot40 works fantastic in a very classic cocktail, the old fashioned. We thought it was the cat's pajamas in our variation, the Rye won't you call me!"
