We're absolutely delighted to kickstart our 3-day Haa Kusteeyi event in the scenic town of Atlin this Friday, July 28th, 2023. We're so pleased to introduce the highly talented Caitlin O'Shea, a prominent Tlingit Cedar weaver hailing from the Taku River Tlingit First Nation.
Join Caitlin and her dedicated team as they impart the age-old tradition of Tlingit cedar weaving. Dive into the rich history of the inland Tlingit people , who have resourcefully utilized the gifts from the forest to sustain their lives for centuries. From cedar trees, they crafted their homes, canoes, clothing, tools, dishes, baskets, and more.
Live this timeless tradition that carries an immense respect for the cedar and its sustaining offerings. This event is far more than a lesson in weaving—it's a cultural connection, where past meets present and traditions continue to enrich lives. Join us for a unique, deeply rewarding experience!

Our Haa Kusteeyi event in the beautiful Atlin, kicks off this very Friday, July 28th, 2023 to July 30th. We are honored to have the dynamic duo, Joanne Williams and her partner Maurice. Masters in the craft of Tlingit Bentwood Box creation and artistry.

Immerse yourself in the rich cultural significance of the Tlingit people who've been fabricating exquisite storage boxes from local cedar trees for centuries. The creation of these bentwood boxes is not merely a skill, but a cherished tradition passed down through generations - it demands patience, expertise and a deep appreciation for the crafting artistry.

We are thrilled to announce the upcoming Haa Kusteeyi event, set to take place from July 28th in the beautiful town of Atlin. It's a 3-day immersion steeped in vibrant culture and artistic craftsmanship.

Our honored guest, Donedin Jackson, is a fourth-generation Shaxʼsaani Kéekʼ and a distinguished artist in focus on Ravenstail & Chilkat Weaving and Fine Textiles. She proudly continues the legacy of the honorable Jennie Thlunaut Yeił Koowu Ka Naax̲éin Shtoowx̲ałtóow. With her skillset, passion, and dedication, Donedin has joined the prestigious ranks of over 30 artists worldwide who possess both the technical proficiency and spiritual understanding required to create full-sized Naax̲éin Chilkat ceremonial robes.

In addition to her craft, she is committed to educating communities about her deep-rooted knowledge and experience. Donedin has embarked on her teaching journey, visiting indigenous communities to conduct engaging demonstrations and workshops.

She will be showcasing her artistic talent throughout the Haa Kusteeyi event. We encourage everyone to seize this opportunity to witness her impressive demonstration.

✨ As our days start to get closer to Haa Kusteeyi 2023, we are blessed to witness this emotional and powerful moment, being able to drum, sing with such a beautiful group of Tlingits, is so amazing, the energy in this room is so powerful and emotional, standing amongst each other as we open our hearts and Spirits to welcome the Chilkat Robe safely back home, that flew over our Taku Water Shed and over our Lands, prior to landing at Whitehorse airport. Thank you to Wayne, Ben, Our Clan Leaders, Elders and to our youth who safely brought this back home.

The robe arrived in Whitehorse on Wednesday and will travel 175 kilometres south to the First Nation's traditional territory in Atlin, where it may be used in future ceremonies.

They have the Chilkat Robe now, and are preparing to come home with it tomorrow 😁❤️🙏🧡🙏

We look forward to drumming them through the gates at the Whitehorse Airport tomorrow at 3:55 pm.
TRT Dance group will be there at around 3-3:30..and anyone who would like to join us for drumming. Bring your regalia and drums and let’s welcome home everyone who brought it back for us and drum in the Chilkat Robe ❤️😊

The Chilkat Robe will be coming home this week, Wednesday at 3:55 pm, from the airport.

Wayne Carlick and a few others went to pick this up in Vancouver this week.
Anyone who is interested in joining us for welcoming this Chilkat Robe home, the Taku Kwaan Dance group will be here to drum them

The 2023 Haa Ḵusteeyí Celebration will take place from Friday July 28 2023- July 30, 2023 in Áa Tlein- Atlin at Tarahne Park with three full days of programming.
Leading our celebration will be a traditional water crossing welcoming the arrival of visiting Tlingit Nations in Tlingit canoes. There will be a traditional lake side greeting ceremony and the lighting of the Celebration Fire. We will then have our grand entry parade with pageantry, flags and Tlingit regalia. Scheduled daily are Public Art Workshops, Cultural Demonstrations, Storytelling, Canoe Events, First Nation Performers, Artists Market, Kids Zone, Tlingit Language Lessons, and much, much more! Each evening will begin with a public feast, followed by performances of traditional drumming and dancing. The event is open to the public and admission is free.
We are requesting group who would like to particpate in the Inland Tlingit Celebration to fill out the performing artists application.
