An icon and dear friend. Mike and I never would have met without you Bob. We’ll love and cherish every amazing moment we had with you…💔

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Bob Russell. For those who had visited Stoneface Dolly’s in the last 20 years, you would have undoubtedly been greeted and shown to your seat by the affable South African.

Bob treated all the guests in his restaurant as though they were family, frequently whisking away a fussy baby to give the parents a few moments of peace to enjoy their meals.

With an incredible passion for food, he would incorporate new menu items from the places he would travel, from Portugal to the Southern United States.

Community and charity would be themes throughout his life, either holding frequent fund raising functions at his establishment or hosting open invite Christmas and Thanksgiving dinners for anyone who needed somewhere to go during the holidays.

Our hearts and thoughts are with Jeff, Katie, and the whole family.

Bob worked and lived by two words:
Hustle and Heart
He had both in spades.

Godspeed, rest easy and be with your beloved Karen again.
You will not be forgotten.

It’s the most wonderful time of the year!

Not sure what constitutes as normal in your house but in mine, once December hits, my charcuterie board becomes an integral part of our family. 9 out of 10 times we host over the holidays, it’s there celebrating with us.

CHRISTMAS LAUNCH!!!

We’re back and bringing you a huge line of assorted preserves, pickles and baking for this holiday season!

The past few months, I’ve been channeling my inner homesteader and harvesting and preserving as much local produce as I can to enjoy in the winter months. And now that we’ve reopened our shopify store you can finally fill your inner cravings, get some unique and local hostess gifts or fill at least a stocking or two!

We’re so excited to be spending the next few weeks turning the bounty of the growing season into delicious treats to be enjoyed in the coming months. Thank you to all the farmers and growers who have worked so tirelessly to feed us!

We’ll be launching all our new preserves in our shop in the next few weeks and with lots of time for you to stock up for Christmas. And yes, Christmas baking will be back!!!

Sorry for the disappearing act! After 13 months of crazy long hours, wild ‘thinking outside the box’ sessions, and many amazing weekly meals being delivered right to your door, we are putting the Lovebox on hold.

The Lovebox was created in order to free up more time to spend doing things you love with people you love. This really hit home at the end of August when Mike’s wife was diagnosed with cancer. The hours and love that he poured into the Lovebox will now have a new direction as they fight this together.

Just because the Lovebox is on hiatus doesn’t mean that our catering is though. We spent the end of summer at some gorgeous cottage parties and pretty magical weddings!

This week is our last Lovebox for the summer! Our mission has always been to share our love for food with you and give you more time to spend with those you love. So we’ve decided it’s time we extended this same courtesy to ourselves and our families! We’ll be taking the next two weeks off to lap up the dog days of summer. Late summer in Ontario is one of my favourite times of the year. True, I hate that summer is almost over and feel frantic trying to cram all sorts of summer fun into the few remaining weeks….but then there’s the gardens! I can’t tell you how much I adore farmer’s markets and roadside farm stalls and my own backyard oasis. I basically stop grocery shopping this time of year and I LOVE that. Supporting our local growers is vital for the economy, essential for their livelihood, better for the environment and our overall health and there is no comparison in flavour and freshness. It’s a win win win!

Hey Almonte!!

It’s no secret that I love small towns. Growing up in Perth and now being fortunate enough to call Almonte my hometown, I have nothing but respect and passion for supporting local businesses. Over the past year, we have met so many enterprising and driven business owners tirelessly working to bring awesome products to their respective communities. We honour all of you!

Vicki and Nick Pruiksma, proud owners of Crooked Mile Brewing in Almonte, are two of these passionate business owners. We’ve recently had the privilege of getting to know these two a little better and we’re looking forward to doing some pretty amazing things with them in the future.

We’re bringing back one of your favourites, with a splash of summer this time!

It’s sumac time, my absolute favourite spice! If you haven’t tried it, you must! Sumac is a small flowering tree native to Iran but grows wild in many other parts of the world. It has a lemon, peppery flavour that you may have tasted in za’atar or other Middle Eastern dishes. When paired with chicken it is exceptional!

Panna cotta with a twist!

Christina Tosi, owner of the iconic and groundbreaking Milk Bar and affiliate to David Chang and the Momofuku group, was the inspiration for this week’s dessert. We’ll be using some of her methods of preparation to create this smooth, silky and delicious panna cotta.

In my romantic and most definitely absurd dream, I’m sitting el fresco under a trellis laden with fruiting grapevines and eating a rustic meal that I’ve hand harvested from my bursting garden. We’re back!

This week we’re bringing you Bob Russell, the owner of Stoneface Dolly’s, famous and long sought after piri piri chicken. This sauce is the bomb! I remember the day that Bob returned from gallivanting around Portugal so clearly. His mission for the next two weeks was to replicate the incredible flavours of this iconic Portuguese sauce.....he tried countless recipes and bought every single premade brand on the market. The kitchen was in total chaos and like a mad scientist, he finally did it. Even better than the original, he boasted. We’ll let you be the judge of that though.... Comfort Food!

A recent conversation that we had in the kitchen got us into a long reminiscence about meals that make us happy and leave us with a lingering bouffage (definition: the feeling of satisfaction following a good meal with good company).

With the subtle heat of that Cajun spice still on your tongue, we ask you to follow us through the French Quarter. Mind your step on the cobblestones. Hear that music? Keep those dancing feet moving, we have one more stop in flavourtown before we go. This last morsel was born in The Big Easy and is the perfect way to end our journey. We’d love to bring you a traditional Bananas Foster but it unfortunately doesn’t travel well, so we’ve mixes it up a bit. Turned it upside down in fact. The swan song to our New Orleans inspired Lovebox, Bananas Foster Upside Down Cake.
