What a couple! These two have done SO much to support my business over the years, from hiring me to paint for them during covid to referring me to their friends and family members as a DJ. I really can’t express how grateful I am for their friendship, love and support.

Arthur is a DJ himself (not to mention an amazing breaker and event planner) so it means a lot that he trusted me with his special day. He and Jasmin had a clear vision for the day and trusted that I would be able to help them deliver on that. That trust means more than anything.

⏪ Let’s plan your wedding backwards! How do you and your partner feel at the end of the night? Is there a last dance, Grand Finale, or couple send-off? What is the final memory your guests will have of the evening? What does that moment look and feel like?

So often planning begins at the beginning and ends in the middle, when it’s clear that the peak of your celebration – and what your guests will remember and *hopefully* rave about – goes down during the last 3-4 hours of the night.

🤔 So why don’t we PLAN the last 3-4 hours of the night?

From my experience, most planners don’t think past the ceremony and décor. The caters and venue deal with the meal, the MC sorts out the speeches and the DJ takes it from there. This is where you see the slow trickle of guests leaving after 10, family starting clean-up at 11 and couples feeling torn between saying their farewells and dancing, socializing or tearing down. 🤦‍♀️

Sadly, many DJs don’t understand their role as ENTERTAINMENT PLANNERS and so they feel their job is to simply play music for 4 hours. 🤦‍♂️

At We Danced we understand that having your wedding build in energy and excitement to a fulfilling climax and resolution is about more than just great music!

It’s about:
💯 WHERE do we put the DJ booth relative to the bar and tables?
💯 WHEN do we do the first dance, last dance, speeches, midnight snack, clean-up?
💯 WHAT can we do to surprise your guests?
💯 WHO is going home when?

💯 HOW do you, your family and friends all FEEL at the end of the night?

🎉 Congratulations to Sofia & Luca on their wedding this past weekend! It was truly an honour to take part in your celebration.

💒 The venue for Sofia & Luca’s ceremony and reception was the beautiful Stanley Park Pavilion Stanley Park Pavilion in Vancouver. I provided sound and music for the ceremony and cocktail hour in the Tea Room, including a handheld wireless mic for our super cool officiant WedbyJane . For cocktail hour the couple chose a Bridgerton themed playlist to help create that classic meets contemporary feeling we were going for.

🕯️The main hall at Stanley Park Pavilion is gorgeous with white décor and nice high ceilings. We added to the ambience with three simple uplights behind the head table.

🔊 Since the hall is long and the DJ booth is at one end I decided to setup a third speaker at the end of the hall furthest from me. This ensures we can hear the music and speeches equally well throughout the space. This in turns actually allows us to keep the levels lower during the dinner hour so we don’t tire everyone’s ears out before dancing even begins.

🎶 Speaking of dancing – wow! What a great party we had! Weddings are always so fun because they’re all about family and it’s pretty special to play a small part in creating all these moments and memories.

😦 Oh ya! Our DJ! 😦

When you begin planning your wedding celebration you’re going to be faced with a daunting list of vendors to contact, price, w**d through and book. There will be an endless number of tasks you forget and then remember… and then promptly forget again as your big day quickly approaches.

Putting together a team that you can trust and rely on is essential for you to have an enjoyable wedding day. You want to know in your heart that every little detail is in the hands of a professional that has given you all the time and attention you deserve.

This is why it was so nice for me to read Peter and Janeth’s review from their wedding this past November. Like many couples, they had a lot of questions about which special moments to include in their timeline and which songs would work best to make these moments unforgettable. As always, we wanted to make sure their guests of all ages were engaged, excited and entertained all night long.

So when I read that Peter and Janeth found my music tools online to be a snap to use and felt that the music planning was super fun and easy, I got a huge smile on my face. Hello and Happy New Year! My name is Chris and I’ll be your host at We Danced… so please allow me to introduce myself.

I’ve been a professional DJ since 2012 working with many of the best companies in Vancouver. In late 2019 I began to envision my own brand that would allow me to flourish in this industry. After developing a name, design, and website I was ready to take 2020 by storm.

Well, there was a perfect storm brewing, and it spelled the end for events in BC and the world. On the eve of my province shutting down I had a flood at my house and my family was relocated for 4 months.

Struggling to support my family, knee deep in disaster management, and facing the uncertainty of the pandemic I was depressed and drowning in an existential crisis:

😷 I was afraid I wouldn’t work again
😷 I was jealous of DJs successfully streaming while I replaced flooring
😷 I asked “If my livelihood can be destroyed so easily, what’s at my core that can never be taken away?”

Thankfully, I was able to use this time to double down on my soul searching to find answers for myself:

👨‍👨‍👦‍👦I am supported by friends and family
🙏I am connected to a spiritual tradition that gives my life meaning
❤️I discovered a self-love that isn’t dependent on my success as a DJ

By letting go of expectations I had around success I slowly became refreshed and ready to perform again. And since events have opened-up in BC I have been working non-stop. The irony is I’ve been so busy that it’s been a challenge focusing on promoting my OWN business. As before I found myself doing loads of events for other companies, getting rave reviews, putting on stellar performances, while others received the accolades… not to mention the lion’s share of the profit.

NYE 2023 was a watershed moment for me. As I announced the ball drop at midnight I knew I had to breathe fresh life into We Danced. Moving into the new year I look forward to brighter lights, crazy packed dancefloors and working with the coolest clients!

Thank you for taking this journey with me. I’m grateful to be here in 2023 with a healthy mind, body and spirit and I look forward to working with each of you to celebrate this magical life!
