Co-Produced by the Arts Club Theatre and Touchstone Theatre, the intent of In Tune is to engage in a community wide consideration and celebration of how we currently develop new musicals in Canada, and what kind of scenarios might encourage more work and greater success and profile for work created. Following the success of the 2011 and 2013 In Tune Conferences, the event returns to Granville Isla
nd in June 2015, animating Granville Island with a full palate of events that explore and celebrate the creation of original Canadian musicals and music theatre. Co-Curated by Touchstone’s Artistic Director Katrina Dunn and the Arts Club’s Literary Manager Rachel Ditor, In Tune’s ten action-filled days combine the discussion and networking of an industry conference with the excitement and innovation of a development event. The many public offerings allow audience members a great glimpse into the newest Canadian musicals in development, and the ideas that are moving the form forward. In Tune’s programming includes Master Classes, Workshops of new works, Showcases, Panel Discussions, and for the first time this year, a Feature Presentation. There are 5 components to the event:
1) Skill-based workshops for local musical theatre practitioners. These include Masterclasses for performers, choreographers, composers and playwrights.
2) Workshopping of several local new musicals currently in development with a professional company of artists, culminating in a showcase event.
3) Panel discussions to facilitate community-wide discussion.
4) Showcases to bring work forward to the community and help facilitate new relationships and opportunities.
5) A feature presentation of a finished work
