I’m absolutely thrilled that my incredible client, (Child & Youth Advocacy Centre - Kelowna) was recognized last week as a national finalist at the Canadian Special Events Awards in the 'Large Scale Fundraiser' category for the 'Once in a Blue Moon' event held at the spectacular in July 2024.

It was a true honour to work with them (and a crew of many!) on this extraordinary evening - an event that brought together passion, purpose, and the power of community to raise over $2.5 million for vulnerable children.

Huge gratitude to and for trusting me with such a meaningful and important event - and the exceptional vision and leadership of .

A great big thank you to all the staff, partners, vendors, guests, sponsors, and volunteers who helped bring this vision to life. To see this event recognized on a national level is such a special moment and a reflection of what’s possible when hearts and efforts align.

When a space already holds so many memories, it becomes the perfect backdrop for new ones. With a little vision (and a lot of logistics), family homes can be transformed into the most beautiful, personal event setting.

Why do I love planning events and weddings? It's about creating experiences that are thoughtful, beautifully executed, and deeply personal. It’s about making sure that every detail serves to amplify connection, celebration, and the joy of being fully present with the people who matter most.

"Why do flowers cost so much?"
It’s a question I've heard several times over the years! I think the most important thing to remember is we don't know what we don't know - most people aren't regularly planning events or weddings that call for larger scale florals vs a bouquet being gifted - so when they see floral quotes come in, it can be unexpected! Like any thing or any craft, it's important to understand the work that happens behind the scenes before you ever see the blooms.
-Sourcing, purchasing, and receiving seasonal blooms (often globally)
-Hours (and days!) of prep and conditioning for the florals (and this is before any design happens)
-Labour - all the transporting, moving, and set up that happens before the event or wedding and the wild hours of takedown, removal, donating or discarding, and washing all the vases and vessels used
-Let's not forget that pesky pandemic that deeply affected the flower industry worldwide and has had a lasting effect on supply chain and pricing
-And most importantly, remember the creative vision and skill of the floral designer who knows how to make it all happen - ensuring everything looks stunning and lasts as long as possible, no matter the setting or season

So no, they’re not 'just some flowers.' They’re the tone-setters, the wow moments, the beauty in the background of your memories. And they’re so worth it!

Is your dream wedding an outdoor celebration at a unique location that isn’t a traditional venue, or will it be at a family home? These settings can create magical wedding backdrops, but they also come with unique logistics to consider.

If there isn’t enough indoor space to replicate your outdoor layout in case of bad weather, a tent will be essential. And with tenting comes key considerations like power supply and lighting.

Don’t forget to consider bathrooms. For weddings lasting 6-8 hours, a good rule of thumb is at least 2 bathrooms per 50 guests to avoid big lineups.

Catering and bartending teams are essentially building a kitchen and bar from scratch at your venue. At minimum, they’ll need tables, covered spaces, power, water, and easy access to ensure seamless service.

Also, be aware that offsite weddings require extensive setup and takedown. It all starts days before with tent installation and rental deliveries - everything must be checked, sorted, and stored for vendors - and this is before decor and table setting can begin. At the end of the night, the teardown process begins continuing through to the days following for rental pickup and tent removal.
