Lovely little weddings had to be the norm during that dastardly pandemic. And we're finding that some couples are still wanting to embrace the beauty of an intimate ceremony and reception with their closest family and friends. And I'm a big fan! ​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​It's a way for you to spend quality time with your most favourite people and with a smaller guest count you may be able to spend more on what matters to you most like a multi-course wine paired dinner, the gorgeous chairs you really want, or extravagant floral arrangements.

It's always so great working with Lauren and her team at . It helped to have a bride who is incredibly stylish with impeccable taste! These gorgeous chairs brought the whole design together (but were a higher priced item) so Lauren was able to create the look our couple dreamed of by moving some design items around without sacrificing visual impact so the chairs got to stay. ​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​It's never too early to start collecting inspiration photos of things you love. Keep them all in one place and when we start working on your design we can go through them with our designer and keep or remove looks and ensure the overall look and feel is just perfect for you. There are many women I'm honouring and treasuring today. ​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​From the courageous wahine (women) and kotiro (girls) in New Zealand in 1893 whose roles had an immense impact on history and the advancement of gender equality making NZ the first country in the world to grant women the right to vote.

Through to one of my heroes who recently passed away - Iris Apfel a 102 1/2 year old style icon who inspired countless people (including myself) to embrace their individuality and express themselves boldly through fashion with her fearless approach to personal style. She will always be a reminder to me to embrace my authenticity, and pave my own path with confidence and creativity.

Let's ALL celebrate women's achievements, be they great or small. Let's recognize and celebrate each other's strengths, kindness, courage, and resilience, and work to foster a more inclusive and equitable society.

I’m often asked how long wedding speeches should be and who should speak. Here are my thoughts: ​​​​​​​​​Ideally, a wedding speech should be between 3-5 mins. This gives time for the speaker to get across a heartfelt and/or humorous message (note – it’s not a roast!), keep it focused on the couple, and keep the attention of the audience. ​​​​​​​​​Typically, here’s who speaks:
-Best Man
-Maid of Honour
-Father and/or mother of the groom and of the bride (these speeches are often longer as parents will likely share stories and wisdom, while expressing love and best wishes for their children)
-Lastly, bride and groom (usually a thank you - to parents/family, to guests, and to the venue and their vendor team)

If there are other people you’d like to speak (siblings, close friends etc) make sure they’re able to keep to the 3-5 min maximum and I recommend NO open mic! It just gets out of hand!

Regardless of who's speaking, I recommend they have prepared notes (don't wing it!) preferably on paper vs a phone (just looks better and no issues with batteries, calls coming in etc!), speak slowly and clearly, and remember to bring your drink up so you can offer cheers to the couple at the end of your speech.

Valentine's Day is celebrated on this day worldwide and is not just for couples, but I like to think it's also a chance to show our love for family and friends. Many people will use today as an opportunity to give or receive flowers, chocolates, and enjoy dinner dates. My take - every day should be Valentine's Day! I like to give and receive expressions of love and appreciation all year long - not just Feb 14th. My husband breathes a sign of relief every year that he's not expected to come up with creative ideas to celebrate me on this one day every year! ​​​​​​​​​But for those of you lovers who celebrate today, I'm wishing you a joyful, love & chocolate-filled day! ​​​​​​​​​

It's understandable how the pandemic impacted dating and relationships worldwide. Social distancing measures, lockdowns, and restrictions on gatherings made it more challenging for people to meet new potential partners and maintain existing relationships. This has resulted in a decrease in diamond sales, wedding gown purchases, venue bookings – you name it! And yes, this phenomenon even has a name. It’s been dubbed the ‘engagement gap’. ​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​It's clear that as we’ve emerged from the pandemic, people are craving human connection and have a sense of hope in the future so it’s pretty awesome to hear from wedding industry experts that an increase of engagements is expected over the next three years, starting in 2024!

What is a Wedding Party?​​​​​​​​​Did you know that officially, the wedding party is the ENTIRE group of people who participate in the ceremony alongside the couple (typically includes a Maid of Honor, bridesmaids, Best Man, groomsmen, as well as any flower girls, ring bearers, ring dogs etc!). The Bridal Party is the group of special people a bride has there to support her leading up to and on the day. The best start to your wedding day is having the perfect preparation space! You and your besties will need easy to eat snacks, maybe a mimosa (or two - we won’t tell!), and water! Your hair and makeup team will need natural light and space to lay out their tools and get to glamming you all up. A spacious and convenient location is always appreciated by your photographer and videographer so they can take care of detail and getting ready shots and head to your venue with plenty of time. We highly recommend who offer lodge accommodation, cabins, and luxury executive homes for rent.

When I start working with couples, we discuss in detail the 'absolute-must-haves', the 'would-be-nice-if-we-could-haves', and the 'do-not-wants' for their wedding. This info is a huge help to me throughout the planning process. It affects everything from the allocation of their wedding budget to setting the wedding day timeline.
